1. A hand vacuum cleaner having, an upper end, a lower end, a front end and a rear end positioned rearward of the front end, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising:

  • (a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet and including an inlet conduit;

    (b) a first stage cyclone having a first stage cyclone chamber and a first stage dirt collection region;

    (c) a second stage cyclone downstream from the first stage cyclone and at least partially nested in the first stage cyclone, the second stage cyclone having a second stage cyclone chamber and a second stage dirt collection region; and

    ,(d) the front end having a front wall, the front wall is moveable between a closed position and an open position wherein, when the front wall is in the open position, the first stage cyclone, the second stage cyclone and the inlet conduit are openedwherein, when the front wall is in the open position with the upper end of the hand vacuum cleaner above the lower end, a horizontal plane extends through a longitudinal length of the first stage cyclone and the front wall has an upper portion and a lower portion and each of the upper and lower portions are positioned above or below the horizontal plane.
