Abstract

A gaming system for conducting a multi-player wagering game includes a multi-touch table surface that is touched by a handheld electronic wager input device (EWID) carried by a player for placing wagers on a wagering game displayed on the multi-touch table surface. Each EWID carried by a player has an associated unique identification code, which is linked to the respective player'"'"'s account. Players indicate an amount to be wagered by touching the EWID to designated wager amount areas, then place the wager by touching the EWID to a designated wagering area. Because each EWID is uniquely associable with distinct player accounts, the gaming system can support any number of players placing wagers. The funds remain safe in the player account and no funds are stored on the EWID. Only the identification code is detected, which is compared with the associated player account before allowing that player to place wagers.

Claims

1. A player account control system comprising:

a remote server storing player account data;

a multi-player gaming machine; and

logic circuitry configured to;

receive, at a casino, player credentials from a plurality of players for establishing respective player accounts;

create, on the remote server, the player accounts including the respective player credentials and respective unique identification codes, the identification codes being stored in respective electronic handheld devices, each handheld device including an electronic display and one or more input devices for operating the handheld device;

in response to the handheld devices being positioned in proximity to the gaming machine, wirelessly detect, at the gaming machine, the identification codes from the respective handheld devices and transmit the identification codes from the gaming machine to the remote server; and

responsive to the remote server receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine, link the player accounts associated with the respective identification codes to multi-player game play on the gaming machine.

2. The player account control system of claim 1, wherein each of the player credentials includes a personal identification number (PIN).

The player account control system of claim 2, wherein, subsequent to receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine and prior to linking the player accounts, each player'"'"'s identity is verified by receiving their corresponding personal information number (PIN) from the player via the handheld device.

4. The player account control system of claim 1, wherein each of the player credentials includes a password.

The player account control system of claim 4, wherein, subsequent to receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine and prior to linking the player accounts, each player'"'"'s identity is verified by also receiving their corresponding password from the player via the handheld device.

6. The player account control system of claim 1, wherein each of the player credentials includes a biometric identifier.

The player account control system of claim 6, wherein, subsequent to receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine and prior to linking the player accounts, each player'"'"'s identity is verified by also receiving their corresponding biometric identifier from the player via the handheld device.

8. The player account control system of claim 1, wherein the multiplayer gaming machine comprises a multi-player gaming table.

9. A multi-player gaming system comprising:

a remote server storing player account data;

a multi-player gaming machine; and

logic circuitry configured to;

receive, at a casino, player credentials from a plurality of players for establishing respective player accounts;

create, on the remote server, the player accounts including the respective player credentials and respective unique identification codes, the identification codes being stored in respective electronic handheld devices, each handheld device including an electronic display and one or more input devices for operating the handheld device;

in response to the handheld devices being positioned in proximity to the gaming machine, wirelessly detect, at the gaming machine, the identification codes from the respective handheld devices and transmit the identification codes from the gaming machine to the remote server; and

responsive to the remote server receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine, link the player accounts associated with the respective identification codes to multi-player game play on the gaming machine.

10. The multi-player gaming system of claim 9, wherein each of the player credentials includes a personal identification number (PIN).

The multi-player gaming system of claim 10, wherein, subsequent to receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine and prior to linking the player accounts, each player'"'"'s identity is verified by receiving their corresponding personal information number (PIN) from the player via the handheld device.

12. The multi-player gaming system of claim 9, wherein each of the player credentials includes a password.

13. The multi-player gaming system of claim 12, wherein, subsequent to receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine and prior to linking the player accounts, each player'"'"'s identity is verified by also receiving their corresponding password from the player via the handheld device.

14. The multi-player gaming system of claim 9, wherein each of the player credentials includes a biometric identifier.

The multi-player gaming system of claim 14, wherein, subsequent to receiving the identification codes from the gaming machine and prior to linking the player accounts, each player'"'"'s identity is verified by also receiving their corresponding biometric identifier from the player via the handheld device.

16. The multi-player gaming system of claim 9, wherein the multiplayer gaming machine comprises a multi-player gaming table.
