Abstract

An input apparatus, a display apparatus and a control method thereof are provided. The input apparatus includes a communication transceiver which is configured to communicate with the display apparatus; a touch sensor which is configured to receive a touch input; and a controller which is configured to divide an input area of the touch sensor into a plurality of areas, and in response to the touch sensor receiving a touch input that ends in at least one setting area of the plurality of areas, sense a change in one of coordinate values X and Y with respect to the received touch input, and control the communication transceiver to transmit a command to the display apparatus corresponding to the sensed change.

Claims

1. A display apparatus comprising:

a display;

a communication transceiver configured to receive, from an external input apparatus comprising a touch area, a signal corresponding to a user input on the touch area; and

a controller being configured to;

based on the signal corresponding to a touch drag in a direction from a first area of the touch area to a second area of the touch area below the first area of the touch area being received, control the display to display a first graphic image, the first area being a top horizontally extending area of the touch area and the second area being a central area of the touch area adjacent to the first area,

based on the signal corresponding to a touch drag in a direction from a third area of the touch area to the second area of the area above the third area of the touch area being received, control the display to display a second graphic image, the third area being a bottom horizontally extending area of the touch area and being adjacent to the second area, and

based on the signal corresponding to a vertical touch drag initially occurred and released in a vertically extending area which is located at a left side or a right side of the touch area of the external input apparatus being received, perform a volume changing function of the display apparatus, the vertically extending area being adjacent to the second area,

wherein the controller is configured not to perform the volume changing function if the vertical touch drag is not initially occurred and released in the vertically extending area.

2. The display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the first graphic image corresponds to a first on-screen display and the second graphic image corresponds to a second on-screen display.

3. The display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the communication transceiver is further configured to receive touch information regarding touch coordinate values from the external input apparatus.

4. The display apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the controller is further configured to determine a pointing position in the display based on the received touch information.

5. The display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to, based on the signal corresponding to a horizontal touch drag with respect the vertically extending area of the touch area, control the display to display a third graphic image.

6. A control method of a display apparatus, the control method comprising:

receiving, from an external input apparatus comprising a touch area, a signal corresponding to a user input on the touch area;

based on the signal corresponding to a touch drag in a direction from a first area of the touch area to a second area of the touch area below the first area of the touch area being received, displaying a first graphic image, the first area being a top horizontally extending area of the touch area and the second area being a central area of the touch area adjacent to the first area,

based on the signal corresponding to a touch drag in a direction from a third area of the touch area to the second area of the touch area above the third area of the touch area being received, displaying a second graphic image, the third area being a bottom horizontally extending area of the touch area and being adjacent to the second area and

based on the signal corresponding to a vertical touch drag occurred and released in a vertically extending area which is located at a left side or a right side of the touch area of the external input apparatus being received, performing a volume changing function of the display apparatus, the vertically extending area being adjacent to the second area,

wherein the performing the volume changing function is not performed if the vertical touch drag is not initially occurred and released in the vertically extending area.

7. The control method according to claim 6, wherein the first graphic image corresponds to a first on-screen display and the second graphic image corresponds to a second on-screen display.

8. The control method according to claim 6, further comprising receiving touch information regarding touch coordinate values from the external input apparatus.

9. The control method according to claim 8, further comprising determining a pointing position in the display based on the received touch information.

10. The control method according to claim 6, further comprising, based on the signal corresponding to a horizontal touch drag with respect the vertically extending area of the touch area being received, displaying a third graphic image.
