1. A method performed by one or more computing systems for ensuring that a transfer of ownership of a lottery ticket of a jurisdiction complies with jurisdictional requirements of the jurisdiction, the method comprising:

  • receiving from a computing device of a first player a purchase request for the lottery ticket, wherein the purchase request specifies a lottery game for which the lottery ticket is being purchased, a second player, and a message to the second player;

    issuing the lottery tickets with the first player being an owner of the lottery ticket;

    accessing rules defining the jurisdictional requirements of the jurisdiction;

    for each rule, verifying that the transfer of the lottery ticket to the second player complies with the rule using the computing device of the first player;

    upon verifying that each rule is complied with;

    generating a transfer notification that includes the message and an indication that the lottery ticket is being transferred from the first player to the second player;

    sending the transfer notification to a computing device of the second player;

    receiving an acceptance notification that the second player has accepted the lottery ticket; and

    upon receiving the acceptance notification, transferring the ownership of the lottery ticket to the second player;

    wherein when the transfer does not comply with any of the rules or when the acceptance notification is not received, the ownership of the lottery ticket is not transferred.
