1. A display device adapted to be mounted on a part of a user'"'"'s head, the display device comprising:
- an image display section configured to display a captured image of a portion of an environment viewable by the user through the display device when the display device is mounted on the part of the user'"'"'s head, the image display section comprising a first surface which faces an eye of the user when the display device is worn on the part of the user'"'"'s head and a second surface opposing the first surface and facing a protection member;
a dimmer comprising a first electrode residing on the protection member, a second substrate, a second electrode residing on the second substrate, and a light transmission control material layer, at least a portion of the light transmission control material layer residing between the first electrode and the second electrode, the dimmer being configured to, while the captured image is displayed, allow an amount of ambient light from the environment to pass through the dimmer; and
a controller configured to process at least one feature of the captured image, and as a result of the processing;
cause the image display section to present display data, andcause the dimmer to modify an amount of ambient light from the environment that is allowed to pass through;
wherein the dimmer is detachable from the display device.

The method may include displaying a captured image of a portion of an environment viewable through the display device; and dimming ambient light received through the head-mounted display device from the environment while displaying the captured image.
