The patient monitoring system includes a plurality of sensors and an active cable coupled to the plurality of sensors to acquire data from the plurality of sensors. The patient monitoring system also includes a host patient monitor coupled to the active cable, wherein the active cable includes a visual alarm that is to indicate an alarm condition using the plurality of sensors.
