1. A first waveguide system comprising:
- a processor; and
a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of first operations, the first operations comprising;
transmitting, to a second waveguide system, first electromagnetic waves via a transmission medium;
wherein the first electromagnetic waves are guided by the transmission medium without requiring an electrical return path;
wherein the first electromagnetic waves convey data including a software program;
wherein the software program is received by the second waveguide system from the first waveguide system without being received directly from a network source server that originated the software program;
wherein a hierarchical configuration of the first waveguide system and the second waveguide system is dynamically organized such that the first waveguide system is designated as a root node, for distribution of the software program, for a group of elements comprising the second waveguide system; and
wherein the transmitting of the first electromagnetic waves facilitates adjusting second operations at the second waveguide system utilizing the software program.

Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a first network device receiving from a second network device a software, the first network device adjusting operations at the first network device according to the software, the first network device providing a digital signature to the software to generate an adjusted software where the digital signature indicates that the first network device has received the software, and the first network device transmitting, to a third network device, the adjusted software. Other embodiments are disclosed.

10. A method comprising:
-
dynamically organizing a hierarchical configuration of a first waveguide system and a second waveguide system such that the first waveguide system is designated as a root node, for distribution of a first software program, for a group of elements comprising the second waveguide system; authenticating, by the first waveguide system, the second waveguide system according to authentication information received from the second waveguide system; responsive to an authentication of the second waveguide system by the first waveguide system, transmitting the first software program by the first waveguide system to the second waveguide system; adjusting operations at the second waveguide system according to the first software program; providing, by the second waveguide system, a digital signature to the first software program to generate an adjusted software program, wherein the digital signature indicates that the second waveguide system has received the first software program; and transmitting by the second waveguide system, to a third waveguide system, the adjusted software program. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16)

17. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a processor of a first waveguide system, cause the processor to perform first operations, the first operations comprising:
-
dynamically organizing a hierarchical configuration of the first waveguide system, a second waveguide system and a third waveguide system such that the first waveguide system is designated as a root node, for distribution of a first software program, for a group of elements comprising the second and third waveguide systems; receiving from the second waveguide system an update request, wherein the update request is responsive to a first determination by the second waveguide system that an existing software program operating at the second waveguide system has expired, and wherein the update request is also received from the second waveguide system by the third waveguide system; and responsive to the update request received by the first waveguide system from the second waveguide system, transmitting the first software program from the first waveguide system to the second waveguide system; wherein responsive to the update request received by the third waveguide system from the second waveguide system, a second software program is transmitted from the third waveguide system to the second waveguide system; wherein the second waveguide system compares the first and second software programs; wherein the second waveguide system, responsive to a second determination that the first software program is a later version than the second software program, adjusts second operations at the second waveguide system according to the first software program; and wherein the update request is not provided by the second waveguide system to a network source server that originated the first software program. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20)
