Abstract

Using inductive currents to wirelessly charge a device via a device connected to a power source. This inductive charging may result when a first mobile device recognizes a second mobile device via a wireless connection (e.g., Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Near-Field Communication (NFC), or the like). An application stored on the first mobile device may recognize a second mobile device by transmitting an advertising packet when the first mobile device is connected to a power source. An advertising packet may be received by the second mobile device and the second mobile device may transmit a response to the advertising packet in order to generate a connection between the first and second mobile devices. The response may include data such as, connection strength, response time, connection preferences, and the like. Upon detection and connection, the second mobile device may be wirelessly charged by the first device via inductive charging.

Claims

1. An electronic transaction card comprising:

a Near-Field Communication (NFC) antenna;

an energy storage component; and

a processor configured to;

send and receive data packets to and from a terminal system to conduct a transaction using contactless payment technology, wherein the data packets include user authentication information to authenticate payment;

transmit, via the NFC antenna, an advertising packet from the electronic transaction card to a mobile power receiving device;

receive, via the NFC antenna, a response to the advertising packet from the mobile power receiving device, wherein the response indicates a first frequency of energy transmission via the NFC antenna;

alter the first frequency of energy transmission via the NFC antenna to a second frequency of energy transmission via the NFC antenna based on a distance between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device; and

broadcast, via the NFC antenna, a signal to the mobile power receiving device using the second frequency and configured to charge the mobile power receiving device via inductive charging.

2. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, wherein the response from the mobile power receiving device indicates that a connection is made between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device.

3. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, wherein the response from the mobile power receiving device includes at least one of the following:

connection strength, response time, connection preferences, optimum frequencies and periodic communication checks.

4. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, wherein the processor automatically broadcasts the signal to inductively charge the mobile power receiving device upon connection between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device.

The electronic transaction card of claim 1, wherein the processor automatically broadcasts the signal to inductively charge the mobile power receiving device when an application on the electronic transaction card detects that energy stored in the mobile power receiving device is below a predefined threshold.

6. The electronic transaction card of claim 5, wherein the predefined threshold is stored in data storage associated with the application on the electronic transaction card.

The electronic transaction card of claim 5, wherein the application utilizes an API comprising a card emulation API to enable NFC card emulation mode, a logic link control protocol (LLCP) API for peer-to-peer communication between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device, a Bluetooth API supporting BLE, a real-time data (RTD) API and/or an NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) API for reading/writing.

8. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to:

receive an advertising packet from a mobile power transmitting device;

send a response to the mobile power transmitting device, the response indicative of a frequency of energy transmission; and

receive a broadcast signal from the mobile power transmitting device, the broadcast signal being based on the frequency of energy transmission to inductively charge the energy storage component.

9. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, further comprising a power management component that manages charging and discharging of the energy storage component.

10. The electronic transaction card of claim 9, wherein the power management component detects an amount of power stored in the energy storage component and relays energy to components of the electronic transaction card.

11. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, further comprising a non-transitory storage medium storing account information of an account holder, wherein the processor authenticates the payment using the account information during the transaction.

12. The electronic transaction card of claim 11, further comprising a card backing including a magnetic stripe read by a magnetic stripe reader.

13. The electronic transaction card of claim 12, wherein the processor receives track data from the account holder'"'"'s mobile device, and dynamically alters the magnetic stripe by storing the received track data on the magnetic stripe to conduct the transaction.

14. The electronic transaction card of claim 11, wherein the processor is configured to receive information of a new account from a mobile device associated with the account holder, activate the new account, and update a display to show the activated new account.

15. The electronic transaction card of claim 1, further comprising a sensor for receiving a security input from an account holder, wherein the processor conducts the transaction using contactless payment technology based on the security input.

16. An electronic transaction card for conducting a transaction using contactless payment technology, comprising:

an antenna;

an energy storage component; and

a processor in the electronic transaction card configured to;

transmit, via the antenna, an advertising packet to a mobile power receiving device;

receive, via the antenna, a response to the advertising packet from the mobile power receiving device, wherein the response indicates a first frequency of energy transmission via, the antenna;

alter the first frequency of energy transmission via the antenna to a second frequency of energy transmission via the antenna based on a distance between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device; and

automatically broadcast, via the antenna, a signal using the second frequency to inductively charge the mobile power receiving device when an application on the electronic transaction card detects that energy stored in the mobile power receiving device is below a predefined threshold.

17. The electronic transaction card of claim 16, wherein the antenna is an NFC antenna.

18. The electronic transaction card of claim 16, wherein the response from the mobile power receiving device indicates that a connection is made between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device.

19. The electronic transaction card of claim 16, wherein the processor automatically broadcasts the signal to inductively charge the mobile power receiving device upon connection between the electronic transaction card and the mobile power receiving device.

20. The electronic transaction card of claim 16, wherein the predefined threshold is stored in data storage associated with the application on the electronic transaction card.

21. A system for wirelessly charging a mobile device, the system comprising:

a first device comprising;

an energy storage component,

a Near-Field Communication (NFC) antenna connected to the energy storage component, and

a microprocessor that causes the first device to;

generate an advertising packet when receiving a first signal that the energy storage component is connected to a power source;

transmit, via the NFC antenna, the advertising packet to a second device;

receive, via the NFC antenna, a response from the second device, wherein the response indicates that a connection is made between the first device and the second device, an optimal frequency for energy transmission via the NFC antenna, and data to determine a distance between the first device and the second device; and

generate a broadcast request to activate an application on the first device, wherein the application alters the optimal frequency received in the response based on the distance between the first device and the second device, wherein the application manages inductive charging of the second device by transmitting at the altered frequency via the NFC antenna.

22. A method comprising:

receiving, at a first device, a first signal that the first device is connected to a power source;

generating, using a microprocessor in the first device, an advertising packet after receiving the first signal;

transmit, via a Near-Field Communication (NFC) antenna, the advertising packet to a second device;

receive, via the NFC antenna, a response to the advertising packet from the second device, the response indicating that a connection is made between the first device and the second device, an optimal frequency for energy transmission via the NFC antenna, and data to determine a distance between the first device and the second device; and

generate, using the microprocessor, a broadcast request to activate an application on the first device, wherein the application alters the optimal frequency received in the response based on the distance between the first device and the second device, wherein the application manages inductive charging of the second device by transmitting at the altered frequency via the NFC antenna.
