Abstract

An apparatus, including a receiver which receives information regarding a limitation or restriction for allowing or prohibiting a control operation or monitoring operation regarding a vehicle or premises, a memory which stores the information, and a first controller programmed to perform a control or monitoring operation regarding the vehicle or premises. The receiver receives a first signal transmitted from a second controller, containing information regarding the control operation or monitoring operation. The first controller determines, using the information, if the control operation or monitoring operation is allowed or disallowed. If allowed, the first controller transmits a second signal to a third controller. The third controller generates a third signal in response to the second signal, which activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the vehicle or premises, or a system, equipment system, equipment, component, device, or accessory, of the vehicle or premises.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver, wherein the receiver receives information regarding a limitation or a restriction for allowing or for prohibiting a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a vehicle, a vehicle system, a vehicle equipment system, a vehicle equipment, a vehicle component, a vehicle device, or a vehicle accessory;

a memory, wherein the memory stores the information regarding the limitation or the restriction for allowing or for prohibiting the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, wherein the first controller is a server computer for a website, and further wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from the vehicle,

wherein the receiver receives a first signal, wherein the first signal is transmitted from a second controller via a communication network, and further wherein the first signal contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the vehicle, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to determine, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, is allowed or disallowed, wherein the first controller determines, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, is allowed or disallowed, and if allowed, the first controller transmits a second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located in or at the vehicle, and further wherein the third controller generates a third signal in response to the second signal, wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the apparatus generates a message, wherein the message is transmitted from the first controller or from the apparatus and is received by or at the second controller or by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the vehicle or an authorized individual, wherein the message contains information regarding a receiving of the first signal by the receiver or contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the message is transmitted in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the communication network is the Internet or the World Wide Web.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second controller is a cellular telephone, an interactive television, a personal digital assistant, a personal computer, a laptop computer, or a watch, and further wherein the third controller is a central processing unit, a microprocessor, or a digital computer.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first signal, the second signal, or the third signal, contains information for controlling a propulsion of the vehicle, a turning of the vehicle, a flight of the vehicle, or a landing of the vehicle.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the vehicle is an airplane, a jet, an aircraft, or a helicopter.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the vehicle is a boat, a marine vehicle, a submarine, or a marine vessel.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the vehicle is a train or a subway train.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the third controller effectuates a repair or a reprogramming of the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from a vehicle, wherein the receiver receives a signal transmitted from a second controller, wherein the first controller is a server computer of a website, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the vehicle, wherein the signal contains information regarding a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a vehicle, a vehicle system, a vehicle equipment system, a vehicle equipment, a vehicle component, a vehicle device, or a vehicle accessory,

wherein the first controller is specially programmed to generate a message containing information regarding information contained in the signal, an attempt to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, or a performance of the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, and further wherein the first controller generates the message, and further wherein the message is transmitted from the first controller or from the apparatus and is received by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the vehicle or an authorized individual.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the first controller receives a reply signal transmitted from the communication device, wherein the reply signal contains information for allowing or disallowing the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first controller processes the information contained in the reply signal and generates a second signal for allowing or disallowing the control operation or the monitoring operation, regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the first controller transmits the second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located at the vehicle, wherein the third controller generates a third signal, and further wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver, wherein the receiver receives information regarding a limitation or a restriction for allowing or for prohibiting a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a premises, a premises system, a premises equipment system, a premises equipment, a premises component, a premises device, or a premises accessory, wherein the premises is a residential building or residential structure and any land associated with the residential building or residential structure or the premises is a commercial building or commercial structure and any land associated with the commercial building or commercial structure;

a memory, wherein the memory stores the information regarding the limitation or the restriction for allowing or for prohibiting the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, wherein the first controller is a server computer for a website, and further wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from the premises,

wherein the receiver receives a first signal, wherein the first signal is transmitted from a second controller via a communication network, and further wherein the first signal contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the premises, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to determine, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, is allowed or disallowed, wherein the first controller determines, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, is allowed or disallowed, and if allowed, the first controller transmits a second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located at the premises, and further wherein the third controller generates a third signal in response to the second signal, wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the apparatus generates a message, wherein the message is transmitted from the first controller or from the apparatus and is received by or at the second controller or by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the premises or an authorized individual, wherein the message contains information contained in the first signal or contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation.

17. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the first signal, the second signal, or the third signal, contains information for controlling or monitoring, or controlling or monitoring an operation of, the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

18. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from a premises, wherein the premises is a residential building or residential structure and any land associated with the residential building or residential structure or the premises is a commercial building or commercial structure and any land associated with the commercial building or commercial structure, wherein the receiver receives a signal transmitted from a second controller, wherein the first controller is a server computer of a website, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the premises, wherein the signal contains information regarding a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a premises, a premises system, a premises equipment system, a premises equipment, a premises component, a premises device, or a premises accessory,

wherein the first controller is specially programmed to generate a message containing information regarding information contained in the signal, an attempt to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, or a performance of the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, and further wherein the first controller generates the message, and further wherein the message is transmitted from the first controller or from the apparatus and is received by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the premises or an authorized individual.

The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the first controller receives a reply signal transmitted from the communication device, wherein the reply signal contains information for allowing or disallowing the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the first controller processes the information contained in the reply signal and generates a second signal for allowing or disallowing the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the first controller transmits the second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located at the premises, wherein the third controller generates a third signal, and further wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

22. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the apparatus effectuates a repair or a reprogramming of the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

23. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver, wherein the receiver receives information regarding a limitation or a restriction for allowing or for prohibiting a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a vehicle, a vehicle system, a vehicle equipment system, a vehicle equipment, a vehicle component, a vehicle device, or a vehicle accessory;

a memory, wherein the memory stores the information regarding the limitation or the restriction for allowing or for prohibiting the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, wherein the first controller is a server computer for a website, and further wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from the vehicle,

wherein the receiver receives a first signal, wherein the first signal is transmitted from a second controller via a communication network, and further wherein the first signal contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the vehicle, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to determine, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, is allowed or disallowed, wherein the first controller determines, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, is allowed or disallowed, and if allowed, the first controller transmits a second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located in or at the vehicle, and further wherein the third controller generates a third signal in response to the second signal,

wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, wherein the first controller generates a message, and further wherein the first controller or the apparatus transmits the message, and further wherein the message is received by or at the second controller or by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the vehicle or an authorized individual.

24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the first signal, the second signal, or the third signal, contains information for controlling an operation of the vehicle, a propulsion of the vehicle, a turning of the vehicle, a flight of the vehicle, or a landing of the vehicle.

25. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the message contains information regarding a receiving of the first signal by the receiver, and further wherein the message is transmitted in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission.

26. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the message contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation, and further wherein the message is transmitted in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission.

27. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver, wherein the receiver receives information regarding a limitation or a restriction for allowing or for prohibiting a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a vehicle, a vehicle system, a vehicle equipment system, a vehicle equipment, a vehicle component, a vehicle device, or a vehicle accessory;

a memory, wherein the memory stores the information regarding the limitation or the restriction for allowing or for prohibiting the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, and further wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from the vehicle,

wherein the receiver receives a first signal, wherein the first signal is transmitted from a second controller, and further wherein the first signal contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the vehicle, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to determine, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, is allowed or disallowed, wherein the first controller determines, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, is allowed or disallowed, and if allowed, the first controller transmits a second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located in or at the vehicle, and further wherein the third controller generates a third signal in response to the second signal, wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory,

wherein the first controller generates a message, and further wherein the first controller or the apparatus transmits the message, and further wherein the message is received by or at the second controller or by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the vehicle or an authorized individual.

The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the second controller or the communication device is a cellular telephone, an interactive television, a personal digital assistant, a personal computer, a laptop computer, or a watch, and further wherein the third controller is a central processing unit, a microprocessor, or a digital computer.

The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the message contains information regarding a receiving of the first signal by the receiver or information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation, and further wherein the message is transmitted in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission.

30. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from a vehicle, wherein the receiver receives a signal transmitted from a second controller, wherein the first controller is a server computer of a website, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the vehicle, wherein the signal contains information regarding a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a vehicle, a vehicle system, a vehicle equipment system, a vehicle equipment, a vehicle component, a vehicle device, or a vehicle accessory,

wherein the first controller is specially programmed to generate a message containing information regarding information contained in the signal, an attempt to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, or a performance of the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory, and further wherein the first controller generates the message, and further wherein the message is transmitted in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission to a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the vehicle or an authorized individual.

The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the first controller receives a reply signal transmitted from the communication device, wherein the reply signal contains information for allowing or disallowing the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the first controller processes the information contained in the reply signal and generates a second signal for allowing or disallowing the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the vehicle, the vehicle system, the vehicle equipment system, the vehicle equipment, the vehicle component, the vehicle device, or the vehicle accessory.

33. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver, wherein the receiver receives information regarding a limitation or a restriction for allowing or for prohibiting a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding a premises, a premises system, a premises equipment system, a premises equipment, a premises component, a premises device, or a premises accessory, wherein the premises is a structure on a piece of land, a structure located on or in water, an industrial structure, equipment, or a mobile structure;

a memory, wherein the memory stores the information regarding the limitation or the restriction for allowing or for prohibiting the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, wherein the first controller is a server computer for a website, and further wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from the premises,

wherein the receiver receives a first signal, wherein the first signal is transmitted from a second controller, and further wherein the first signal contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the premises, wherein the first controller is specially programmed to determine, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, is allowed or disallowed, wherein the first controller determines, using the information regarding the limitation or the restriction, if the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, is allowed or disallowed, and if allowed, the first controller transmits a second signal to a third controller, wherein the third controller is located at the premises, and further wherein the third controller generates a third signal in response to the second signal, wherein the third signal activates, deactivates, enables, disables, controls an operation of, or monitors an operation of, the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

The apparatus of claim 33, wherein the first controller generates a message, and further wherein the first controller or the apparatus transmits the message, and further wherein the message is received by or at the second controller or by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the premises or an authorized individual, wherein the message contains information contained in the first signal or contains information regarding the control operation or the monitoring operation.

35. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the message is transmitted in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission.

The apparatus of claim 33, wherein the first signal, the second signal, or the third signal, contains information for controlling or monitoring, or controlling or monitoring an operation of, the premises, the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory.

37. An apparatus, comprising:

a receiver;

a first controller, wherein the first controller is located at a location separate and apart from a premises, wherein the premises is a residential building or residential structure and any land associated with the residential building or residential structure or the premises is a commercial building or commercial structure and any land associated with the commercial building or commercial structure, wherein the receiver receives a signal transmitted from a second controller, wherein the first controller is a server computer of a website, wherein the second controller is located at a location separate and apart from the first controller and separate and apart from the premises, wherein the signal contains information regarding a control operation or a monitoring operation regarding the premises, or regarding a premises system, a premises equipment system, a premises equipment, a premises component, a premises device, or a premises accessory, of the premises,

wherein the first controller is specially programmed to generate a message containing information regarding information contained in the signal, an attempt to perform the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, or regarding the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, of the premises, or a performance of the control operation or the monitoring operation regarding the premises, or regarding the premises system, the premises equipment system, the premises equipment, the premises component, the premises device, or the premises accessory, of the premises, and further wherein the first controller generates the message, and further wherein the message is transmitted from the first controller or the apparatus in an e-mail message or in an electronic transmission, and further wherein the message is received by or at a communication device of or associated with an owner or user of the premises or an authorized individual.
