Abstract

A breathing support system is provided. The system may include a breathing support device configured to deliver gas to a patient and a display device associated with the breathing support device. The display device may be configured to display a work of breathing graphic indicating one or more work of breathing measures regarding the patient'"'"'s breathing.

Claims

1. A ventilator system comprising:

a display device;

one or more sensors;

a processor; and

a memory for storing and encoding computer executable instructions that, when executed by the processor are operative to;

generate a work of breathing (WOB) graphic, wherein the WOB graphic has a constant size that does not change based on first data from the one or more sensors, wherein the WOB graphic has a set of numerical indices displayed in units of at least one of;

joules (J), joules per liter (J/L), joules per minute (J/min), or joules per minute per kilogram (J/min/kg);

display the WOB graphic on the display device;

calculate a patient work of breathing;

display on the WOB graphic a patient work of breathing indicator indicating the patient work of breathing based on the first data;

calculate a new patient work of breathing based on second data received from the one or more sensors; and

move the patient work of breathing indicator along the indices on the WOB graphic to indicate the new patient work of breathing.

2. The ventilator system according to claim 1, wherein the instructions are operative to:

calculate a total work of breathing based on the first data from the one or more sensors;

display on the WOB graphic a total work of breathing indicator indicating the total work of breathing based on the first data;

calculate a new total work of breathing based on the second data received from the one or more sensors, wherein the total work of breathing indicator moves along the indices on the WOB graphic to indicate the new total work of breathing.

3. The ventilator system according to claim 1, wherein the first data is at least one of pressure and flow of gas delivered to a patient during ventilation by the ventilator system.

4. The ventilator system according to claim 1, wherein the instructions are operative to:

calculate an elastic work of breathing and a resistive work of breathing based on the first data received from the one or more sensors; and

display an elastic-resistive work of breathing indicator indicating the elastic work of breathing and the resistive work of breathing on a WOB scale related to the WOB graphic.

5. The ventilator system according to claim 1, wherein the instructions are operative to:

calculate a device work of breathing based on the first data from the one or more sensors; and

display a device work of breathing indicator indicating the device work of breathing of a total work of breathing on the WOB graphic.

6. The ventilator system according to claim 1, wherein the one or more sensors are external to the patient.

7. The ventilator system according to claim 6, wherein the set of numerical indices is displayed in the units of joules per minute (J/min).

8. A ventilator system comprising:

a display device;

one or more sensors;

a processor; and

a memory for storing and encoding computer executable instructions that, when executed by the processor are operative to;

generate a work of breathing (WOB) graphic, wherein the WOB graphic has a set of numerical indices displayed in units of;

joules (J), joules per liter (J/L), joules per minute (J/min), or joules per minute per kilogram (J/min/kg);

display the WOB graphic on the display device;

calculate one or more patient work of breathing parameters based on first data received from the one or more sensors;

display one or more patient work of breathing indicators indicating the one or more patient work of breathing parameters on the WOB graphic;

calculate one or more new patient work of breathing parameters based on second data received from the one or more sensors;

and dynamically move the one or more patient work of breathing indicators along the indices on the WOB graphic to indicate the one or more new patient work of breathing parameters.

9. The ventilator system according to claim 8, wherein the instructions are operative to:

calculate an elastic work of breathing and a resistive work of breathing based on the first data received from the one or more sensors;

display the elastic work of breathing and the resistive work of breathing on a WOB scale associated with the WOB graphic;

calculate a new elastic work of breathing and new resistive work of breathing based on the second data received from the one or more sensors,

wherein an elastic-resistive work of breathing indicator moves on the WOB scale to indicate the new elastic work of breathing and the new resistive work of breathing.

10. The ventilator system of claim 8, wherein the one or more work of breathing parameters is a patient work of breathing, and wherein the one or more new patient work of breathing parameters is a new patient work of breathing.

11. The ventilator system of claim 8, wherein the one or more sensors are external to the patient and measure at least one of flow and pressure.
