1. A continuous glucose sensor system for measuring a glucose concentration in a host, the system comprising:

  • a first continuous sensor configured to detect glucose while implanted in the host, wherein the first continuous sensor comprises an electrochemical sensor configured to generate a first signal;

    a second continuous sensor configured to generate a reference analyte signal for a substantially constant reference analyte while implanted in the host, wherein the substantially constant reference analyte is not glucose, wherein the second sensor is configured to calibrate the first continuous sensor; and

    a processor module configured to;

    determine a sensitivity of the first continuous sensor using the reference analyte signal, the sensitivity describing a relationship between an amount of current produced by the first continuous sensor and a glucose concentration at the first continuous sensor; and

    determine a glucose concentration using the sensitivity of the first continuous sensor and the first signal.
