1. A user input device, comprising:

  • a touch-sensitive interface;

    a processing system including a processor; and

    a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, comprising;

    receiving, from a computing device communicatively coupled to the user input device, user input to identify a plurality of virtual regions of the touch-sensitive interface to define a plurality of buttons, wherein the user input is received via an interface provided at the computing device;

    configuring the user input device according to the user input received from the computing device;

    receiving a coordinate signal from the touch-sensitive interface;

    receiving an actuation signal from the touch-sensitive interface indicating that the touch-sensitive interface has been depressed;

    determining a substitute stimuli based on the coordinate signal, the actuation signal, and an indication of a software application; and

    providing the substitute stimuli to the software application.
