Abstract

Methods and systems for providing data communication in medical systems are disclosed.

Claims

1. An analyte monitoring device, comprising:

an in vivo analyte sensor for positioning in fluid contact with bodily fluid under a skin surface; and

sensor electronics operatively coupled to the in vivo analyte sensor and comprising one or more components, and configured to;

receive signals corresponding to a measured analyte level from the in vivo analyte sensor;

store identification information for the sensor electronics;

receive a predefined command from a remote device;

transmit the stored identification information to the remote device;

receive synchronization data from the remote device;

modify an operation of the one or more components of the sensor electronics in response to the predefined command; and

transmit data for the signals corresponding to the measured analyte level from the in vivo analyte sensor and the synchronization data in real time.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor is one of a lactate sensor or a glucose sensor.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to transmit data for the signals corresponding to the measured analyte level from the in vivo analyte sensor and the synchronization data in real time using a Bluetooth enabled communication protocol.

4. The device of claim 3, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to receive the predefined command and the synchronization data from the remote device, and to transmit the stored identification information to the remote device using an RF communication protocol.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to activate an operation of a real time communication component in response to the predefined command.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer.

8. The device of claim 6, wherein the working electrode further comprises a mediator.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a mediator bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein the mediator is chemically bonded to the polymer.

11. A system, comprising:

an in vivo analyte sensor for positioning in fluid contact with bodily fluid under a skin surface;

a remote device; and

sensor electronics operatively coupled to the in vivo analyte sensor and comprising one or more components, and configured to;

receive signals corresponding to a measured analyte level from the in vivo analyte sensor;

store identification information for the sensor electronics;

receive a predefined command from the remote device;

transmit the stored identification information to the remote device;

receive synchronization data from the remote device;

modify an operation of one or more components of the sensor electronics in response to the predefined command; and

transmit data for the signals corresponding to the measured analyte level from the in vivo analyte sensor and the synchronization data in real time.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor is one of a lactate sensor or a glucose sensor.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to transmit data for the signals corresponding to the measured analyte level from the in vivo analyte sensor and the synchronization data in real time using a Bluetooth enabled communication protocol.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to receive the predefined command and the synchronization data from the remote device, and to transmit the stored identification information to the remote device using an RF communication protocol.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to activate an operation of a real time communication component in response to the predefined command.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising an analyte-responsive enzyme bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the analyte-responsive enzyme is chemically bonded to the polymer.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the working electrode further comprises a mediator.

19. The system of claim 11, wherein the in vivo analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode comprising a mediator bonded to a polymer disposed on the working electrode.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the mediator is chemically bonded to the polymer.
