1. An analyte monitoring system, comprising:

  • an analyte sensor configured to generate signals corresponding to a monitored analyte level in interstitial fluid;

    a receiving device comprising a display; and

    sensor electronics operatively coupled to the analyte sensor, wherein the sensor electronics is configured to process the generated signals to form one or more data packets, the one or more data packets including at least a current analyte level data point at a current monitoring time, time information that corresponds to a subsequent transmission time for communication of one or more subsequent data packets, and data identifying the sensor electronics, wherein the sensor electronics is further configured to periodically communicate the one or more data packets to the receiving device;

    wherein the receiving device is configured to determine a source of incoming transmissions according to the data identifying the sensor electronics, to pair with the sensor electronics in response to receiving a transmission including the one or more data packets from the sensor electronics, to receive and store the data identifying the sensor electronics;

    to use the time information to identify the subsequent transmission time;

    to determine that more than a predetermined interval has passed since the subsequent transmission time, and in response to determining that more than the predetermined interval has passed since the subsequent transmission time, to provide an alarm on the display of the receiving device.
