System and method for adapting alarms in a wearable medical device
First Claim
1. An ambulatory medical device comprising:
- one or more physiological sensors configured to acquire cardiopulmonary data from a patient, the cardiopulmonary data comprising one or more of electrocardiogram (ECG) data, heart rate data, and respiration data; and
at least one processor operatively coupled to the one or more physiological sensors and configured toreceive at least one user input indicating at least one physical impairment associated with the patient, the at least one physical impairment comprising impaired hearing and the at least one user input comprising a patient response to a hearing test, detect a cardiac abnormality of the patient based at least on the cardiopulmonary data, identify a notification associated with the cardiac abnormality of the patient, the notification associated with the cardiac abnormality having one or more characteristics that indicate one or more output conduits for issuing an alarm, adapt the one or more characteristics of the notification associated with the cardiac abnormality in response to the at least one physical impairment associated with the patient to generate an adapted notification of the cardiac abnormality to have one or more of frequency, amplitude, and tonal quality that corresponds to one or more audio output conduits, andissue the adapted notification of the cardiac abnormality to the patient.

Abstract
According to another example, a wearable medical device controller is provided. The device controller includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to determine a correlation between a phenomenon identifiable by the wearable medical device controller and at least one response pattern associated with a patient and store, responsive to detecting the correlation, an adaptation path to address the at least one response pattern, the adaptation path specifying an adaptation of at least one characteristic of an alarm. The at least one response pattern may include a plurality of response patterns and the adaptation path may reflect adaptations made to address at least some of the plurality of response patterns.

-
one or more physiological sensors configured to acquire cardiopulmonary data from a patient, the cardiopulmonary data comprising one or more of electrocardiogram (ECG) data, heart rate data, and respiration data; and at least one processor operatively coupled to the one or more physiological sensors and configured to receive at least one user input indicating lack of acuity of at least one physical sense of the patient, the at least one physical sense comprising impaired hearing and the at least one user input comprising a patient response to a hearing test, determine that the lack of acuity of at least one physical sense of the patient is an inhibiting factor for receiving an alarm, detect a cardiac abnormality of the patient based at least on the cardiopulmonary data, identify a notification associated with the cardiac abnormality of the patient, the notification associated with the cardiac abnormality having one or more characteristics that indicate one or more output conduits for issuing an alarm, adapt the one or more characteristics of the notification associated with the cardiac abnormality in response to the lack of acuity of at least one physical sense of the patient to generate an adapted notification of the cardiac abnormality to have one or more of frequency, amplitude, and tonal quality that corresponds to one or more audio output conduits, and issue the adapted notification of the cardiac abnormality to the patient. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11)
