Wireless exploration seismic system
First Claim
1. A method for use in connection with conducting a seismic survey, comprising:
- disposing, in series, a plurality of modules that are operative to wirelessly communicate data between respective ones of the modules, wherein the modules define a wireless serial data transfer path for relaying data along said serial data transfer path between modules disposed at a first end of said serial data transfer path and a data collection unit disposed at a second end of said serial data transfer path;
assigning a first module in the serial data transfer path a first transmission frequency;
assigning a second module in the serial data transfer path a second transmission frequency, wherein the first and second transmission frequencies are different;
first transmitting, on the first transmission frequency, command data from the first module to at least one upstream module wherein said upstream module is closer than said first module to said second end of said serial data transfer path; and
second transmitting, on the second transmission frequency, command data from the second module to at least one upstream acquisition module;
wherein at least a portion of the first transmitting and at least a portion of the second transmitting occur simultaneously.

Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for acquiring seismic data using a wireless network and a number of individual data acquisition modules that are configured to collect seismic data and forward data to a central recording and control system. In one implementation, a number of remote modules are arranged in lines. Base station modules receive information from the lines and relay the information to a central control and recording system. Radio links operating on multiple frequencies are used by the modules. Dynamic multiplexing technique may include advancing one or more modules in a seismic array through a multiplexing signature sequence in successive transmission periods. The multiplexing signature sequence may be random or pseudo-random. A shared multiplexing signature sequence may be used at all the modules in the seismic array. Modules belonging to a common collision domain may operate out of phase with respect to the shared multiplexing signature sequence.
