1. An electronic device, comprising:

  • a display;

    one or more input devices;

    one or more biometric sensors;

    one or more processors; and

    memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

    displaying, at a respective location on the display, an indication that the electronic device is in a locked state;

    receiving, via the one or more input devices, a request to perform an operation that requires authentication;

    in response to the request to perform the operation that requires authentication;

    in accordance with a determination that authentication is successful;

    displaying, at the respective location on the display, an indication that authentication is successful, andperforming the operation; and

    in accordance with a determination that authentication is not successful and that a set of error condition criteria is met;

    displaying, at the respective location on the display, an indication of an error condition, wherein the indication includes information about the cause of the error condition; and

    forgoing performing the operation; and

    subsequent to displaying the indication of the error condition and in response to a determination, by the electronic device, that the set of error condition criteria is no longer met due to a detected change in orientation or position of a biometric feature with respect to the one or more biometric sensors, automatically retrying, by the electronic device, authentication.
