Abstract

The present invention relates to ingredients for animal feed compositions for enhancing animal growth and/or animal health. The invention also relates to methods for producing such ingredients and feed compositions. The methods of the invention further allow improving the palatableness and/or digestibility of feed compositions. More specifically, the invention describes the use of a mix of Deinococcus or related bacteria and biomass as a supply of organic constituents in feed compositions.

Claims

1. A method of feeding an animal comprising providing to the animal a feedstuff composition comprising a Deinococcus bacterium, wherein the animal is poultry, fish or crustacean.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said feedstuff composition contains amino acids.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said feedstuff composition further comprises biomass being at least partially digested by said Deinococcus bacterium.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein said biomass is a lignocellulosic biomass.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the lignocellulosic biomass is cereal bran, wheat bran, vegetal cattle cake, rapeseed cattle cake, soybean cattle cake, sugar cane and derivatives thereof, corn, sugarbeet, miscanthus, switch grass, hemp, poplar, willow sorghum, rice, soy, peanut, cotton, lupine, eucalyptus or oil palm.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the animal is fish.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the animal is poultry.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the animal is crustacean.
