1. An aerosol delivery device comprising:
- at least one housing enclosing a reservoir configured to retain an aerosol precursor composition;
a heating element;
a microprocessor configured to operate in an active mode in which the microprocessor is configured to control the heating element to activate and vaporize components of the aerosol precursor composition; and
a digital compass including a multi-axis magnetometer configured to measure a magnetic field in an environment of the aerosol delivery device, and generate a corresponding signal that indicates a direction and strength of the magnetic field; and
a communication interface configured to enable wireless communication of the corresponding signal to a remote tracking system configured to automatically determine a geographic location of the aerosol delivery device based on the direction and strength of the magnetic field indicated by the corresponding signal.

Abstract
An aerosol delivery device is provided. The aerosol delivery device comprises a control component and a digital compass. The digital compass includes a multi-axis magnetometer configured to measure a magnetic field in an environment of the aerosol delivery device, and generate a corresponding signal that indicates a direction and strength of the magnetic field. The control component or the digital compass are configured to control operation of at least one functional element of the aerosol delivery device based on the direction and strength of the magnetic field indicated by the corresponding signal, or a direction of the aerosol delivery device relative thereto. Control of the at least one functional element includes output of the direction and strength of the magnetic field or the direction of the aerosol delivery device for presentation by a display.
