1. A battery sense device comprising:
- a temperature sensor adapted to measure a temperature of a battery;
a controller adapted to be coupled to the battery, the controller configured to;
measure a first voltage of the battery during a first interval;
estimate a first current through the battery during the first interval using the first voltage, a first depth of discharge (DOD), and a first resistance of the battery, wherein the estimate of the first current is made without measuring current;
calculate an estimated second DOD of the battery, during a second interval after the first interval, based on the first current;
measure a second voltage of the battery during the second interval; and
estimate a second current through the battery during the second interval based on the second voltage of the battery.

Abstract
One embodiment of the invention includes a battery sense system. The system includes a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of a battery and a memory configured to store predetermined data associated with steady-state and transient behaviors of the battery relative to a depth of discharge (DOD) of the battery. The system also includes a controller configured to measure a voltage of the battery and to calculate a state of charge (SOC) of the battery based on the voltage, the predetermined data, and the temperature.
