Abstract

A method for automatic frequency control in a wireless communication network having public frequency channels comprises the steps of: scanning the public frequency channels; locking the cellular base station to a signal on one of the public frequency channels; and returning the cellular base station to normal operation.

Claims

1. In a wireless communication network having public frequency channels, a method for automatic frequency control for a cellular base station, the method comprising the steps of:

scanning the public frequency channels;

locking the cellular base station to a signal on one of the public frequency channels; and

returning the cellular base station to normal operation.

2. The method as recited in

claim 1

wherein the step of locking further comprises the step of deriving a carrier frequency reference from the public frequency channels.

3. The method as recited in

claim 2

further comprising the step of adjusting a carrier frequency reference of the cellular base station as a function of said derived carrier frequency reference.

4. The method as recited in

claim 1

wherein said signal is based on a carrier frequency reference tighter than a carrier frequency reference of the cellular base station.

5. The method as recited in

claim 1

wherein said signal is a TDMA signal.

6. The method as recited in

claim 1

wherein said signal is a CDMA signal.

7. The method as recited in

claim 1

wherein said signal is an NAMP signal.

8. In a wireless communication network having a base station transmitting signals on public frequency channels, a method for automatic frequency control for a personal base station, the method comprising the steps of:

scanning the public frequency channels;

locking the personal base station to one signal of the signals; and

returning the personal base station to normal operation.

9. The method as recited in

claim 8

wherein the step of locking further comprises the step of deriving a carrier frequency reference said one signal.

10. The method as recited in

claim 9

further comprising the step of adjusting a carrier frequency reference of the personal base station as a function of said derived carrier frequency reference.

11. The method as recited in

claim 8

wherein said one signal is based on a carrier frequency reference tighter than a carrier frequency reference of the personal base station.

claim 8

wherein said one signal is a TDMA signal.

13. The method as recited in

claim 8

wherein said one signal is a CDMA signal.

14. The method as recited in

claim 8

wherein said one signal is an NAMP signal.
