Abstract

The present invention is a method and system for using predetermined preferences/characteristics to ascertain personal compatibility between network or chat room participants based upon profile information. When the system determines that these preferences are favorable for interpersonal compatibility, the system will automatically notify or page the participants so as to facilitate their introduction. Further functionality, aside from the compatibility based upon profile information, includes e-mail and other electronic notification of personal compatibility as well as geographic compatibility.

Claims

1. A method for the automated display of human participant-specific data to a human participant of a network chat room, comprising the steps of:

(a) collecting human participant customized data for a plurality of chat room participants;

(b) storing, in memory, the human participant customized data collected;

(c) sorting said human participant customized data from a plurality of chat room participants by compatibility criteria; and

(d) automatically displaying at least a portion of the sorted human participant customized data to at least one participant in association with a network chat room.

2. The method of

claim 1

, wherein said step of collecting human participant customized data includes the collection of data from at least one category in the group consisting of:

an age of the human participant;

at least one psychological trait including emotional and cognitive capacities of the human participant;

a lifestyle characteristic, including household income of the human participant;

ethnicity of the human participant;

a gender of the human participant;

a physical characteristic of the human participant;

a preferred leisure time activity of the human participant;

an occupation of the human participant;

an ethnicity for at least one sibling of the human participant;

a club that the human participant has subscribed to;

an organization that the human participant subscribed to;

an organization of employment where human participant has worked;

ethnicity of the biological parents of the human participant;

ethnicity of the surrogate parents of the human participant;

ethnicity of the guardians of the human participant;

a current geographic location of the human participant;

a religious preference of the human participant;

a school that the human participant has attended; and

specific knowledge that the participant may have acquired their education.

3. The method of

, wherein said step of collecting human participant customized data includes:

presenting to the human participant an on-line survey comprising a plurality of questions; and

detecting and recording the human participant responses to the questions.

, wherein said step of collecting human participant customized data includes deriving the human participant data from a network connected resource.

, wherein said step of collecting human participant customized data includes uploading the human participant data from an off-line resource.

, wherein said step of storing the collected human participant customized data includes:

creating at least one data table within a database that includes data for a plurality of human participants; and

within said table storing at least one record containing information indicative of the human participant responses to the questions.

, wherein said step of sorting said human participant customized data includes:

retrieving at least one compatibility criteria for the sorting, wherein the compatibility criteria includes at least one characteristic and a threshold; and

applying the compatibility criteria to a plurality of records containing information indicative of the human participant responses in the data table within a database so as to determine the compatibility of the human participants.

, wherein said step of applying the compatibility criteria includes comparing data stored in the records to identify a match.

, wherein the step of automatically displaying data to at least one participant in association with a network chat room includes:

creating a windowed region within a user-interface associated with the chat room; and

populating a table within the windowed region with at least a participant'"'"'s name and one compatibility criteria.

11. A method for determining the compatibility of at least two participants in a networked chat room, and for the automated paging of compatible participants based upon a predetermined criteria, comprising the steps of:

(a) collecting human participant customized data for a plurality of chat room participants;

(b) storing, in memory, the human participant customized data collected,

(c) sorting said human participant customized data from a plurality of chat room participants by participant-specified preferences;

(d) automatically computing the compatibility of at least two human participants using the predetermined criteria, and

(e) paging the participants to indicate their compatibility.

, wherein the step of automatically computing the compatibility of at least two human participants includes assessing whether the participants are available to participate in the chat room at the same time, and where the step of paging the participants to indicate their compatibility includes sending each compatible participant an electronic message indicating the compatibility.

, wherein the signal includes an identification of another compatible participant and an indication of the proximity of the other participant.

18. A method for automatically prompting compatible users in a network based upon a compatibility criteria, comprising the steps of:

(a) collecting human participant customized data for a plurality of network users;

(b) storing, in memory, the human participant customized data collected;

(c) sorting said human participant customized data from a plurality of network users by participant-specified preferences;

(d) automatically computing the compatibility of at least two network users using the predetermined criteria; and

(e) paging the network users to indicate their compatibility.

, wherein the step of automatically computing the compatibility of at least two network users includes assessing whether the users are able to meet in person, and where the step of paging the users to indicate their compatibility includes sending each compatible user an electronic message indicating the compatibility.

, wherein the signal includes an identification of another compatible participant and an indication of the proximity of the other participant.

22. A system for the automated transmission of human participant-specific data to a human participant of a network chat room, comprising:

a computer network for collecting human participant customized data for a plurality of chat room participants;

a database for storing, in a memory, the human participant customized data collected via the network; and

a processor, associated with said network and with access to said database, for sorting said human participant customized data from a plurality of chat room participants using compatibility criteria, and automatically transmitting at least a portion of the sorted human participant customized data to at least one participant in association with the network chat room.

23. The apparatus of

, further including a display device, associated with the network, for receiving the transmitted portion of the sorted human participant customized data and displaying the data to a human participant.

, wherein the display device is selected from the group consisting of:

a computer video display;

a personal digital assistant;

a pager; and

a wireless telephone.
