1. A mammalian implant assembly comprising:

  • (a) a wire having an axis, a proximal end, a tapered distal section and a distal end, the wire having a single distal sacrificial region comprising a discrete, metallic link that is susceptible to electrolytic disintegration in an ionic medium, the wire not being susceptible to electrolytic disintegration proximal of said link, and (b) a detachable implant joined to the wire without solder, the implant not being susceptible to electrolytic disintegration in an ionic medium.
