Abstract

A multiplexed motion picture camera comprising a sturdy plate for supporting a plurality of camera mechanisms, each camera mechanism provided with an adjustable support device, and connected to a common objective lens through an arrangement of lenses, beam splitters, multiple axis optical relays, and additional shutter devices. Each camera mechanism and its associated optical relays, shutters, and lenses can be individually controlled and adjusted to allow an operator a broad range of photographic settings to achieve a smooth, continuous, natural motion moving image recording.

Claims

1. A multiplexed motion picture camera, comprising:

a common objective lens facing a scene to be photographed;

a beam splitter which receives scene light from the objective lens and directs the scene light to at least two respective image planes associated with the beam splitter;

a first scene light capture means arranged in a first of the at least two respective image planes; and

a second scene light capture means arranged in a second of the at least two respective image planes, wherein the first and second scene light capture means are synchronized to record at least an aspect of the scene.

2. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, wherein the first and second scene light capture means are synchronized to record an identical aspect of the scene.

3. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, wherein the first and second scene light capture means are synchronized to record different aspects of the scene.

4. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 3, wherein the first scene light capture means has an expose time greater than an expose time of the second scene light capture means.

The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, further comprising at least one relay lens disposed between the beam splitter and the first of the at least two image planes, wherein the relay lens is movable and the movement of the relay lens is synchronized in time with the expose time of the first scene light capture means.

6. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 5, wherein the relay lens is reset to an initial position at each start of the expose time of the first scene light capture means.

7. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, further comprising a second beam splitter disposed to receive scene light from the beam splitter.

8. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, further comprising at least one relay lens disposed between the objective lens and the beam splitter.

9. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 5, further comprising at least one relay lens disposed between the objective lens and the beam splitter.

The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, further comprising at least one relay lens disposed between the beam splitter and the first of the at least two image planes, wherein a position of the relay lens with respect to the first of the at least two image planes is adjustable so as to define a focal plane for the scene light in the first scene capture means which is different from a focal plane of the scene light in the second scene capture means.

The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 5, further comprising at least one relay lens disposed between the beam splitter and the first of the at least two image planes, wherein a position of the relay lens with respect to the first of the at least two image planes is adjustable so as to define a focal plane for the scene light in the first scene capture means which is different from a focal plane of the scene light in the second scene capture means.

12. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, wherein said aspect is a color separation image of the scene.

13. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, wherein said aspect is an exposure time of the scene light in the respective image planes associated with the beam splitter.

The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, further comprising at least one shutter disposed between the beam splitter and the first of the at least two image planes, wherein the shutter defines an exposure time of the first scene light capture means, and wherein the exposure time for the first scene light capture means is different from an exposure time for the second scene light capture means.

15. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 1, wherein the camera is a film camera and the first and second scene light capture means are photographic film.

16. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 15, wherein the photographic film is black and white film.

17. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 15, wherein the photographic film is color film.

18. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 15, wherein the film in the first light capture means advances at a speed greater than a film advance speed of the second light capture means.

19. The multiplexed motion picture camera of claim 15, wherein the film in the first light capture means is exposed to the scene light for a length of time greater than the film in the second light capture means.

20. A method for simultaneously recording a plurality of images through a common objective lens that receives scene light from a scene to be photographed, comprising:

splitting the scene light received by the objective lens into the plurality of images;

imaging each of the plurality of images through a respective relay lens in a respective image plane, and

moving each of the respective relay lenses associated with the respective image planes in synchronization with an exposure time of the image planes during the exposure time and restoring each of the relay lenses to an initial position between successive exposure times, thereby blurring the images in the respective image planes during the exposure time.

21. A method for simultaneously recording a plurality of images through a common objective lens that receives scene light from a scene to be photographed, comprising:

splitting the scene light received by the objective lens into the plurality of images;

imaging each of the plurality of images through a respective relay lens in a respective image plane, and

moving the relay lens associated with a first image plane in relation to the relay lens associated with a second image, thereby providing a different focus setting between the first and second image plane.
