Abstract

A system and method for enabling users to send and receive messages and other information from mobile devices and enabling users to access server-based information using mobile devices over wireless data networks are disclosed. The present invention further provides search capabilities on a wireless device. Search criteria may include searching messages (e.g., emails, memos, and/or other correspondences and documents) based on various fields, such as sender, date, subject and other parts of a message. Other search criteria may also be used. The present invention may also provide an application search form to perform various search functions. A search form may contain a formula field where the field may contain a select formula that may be evaluated on the server for the search operation. This formula typically may reference other fields on the search form.

Claims

1. A method of operating a search application via networkable media in a wireless client device, comprising the steps of:

(a) selecting at least one search option for execution on the wireless client device; and

(b) using the search application to receive transmissable media content via a wireless medium based on the at least one search option.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the selecting of step (a) comprises a step c) of selecting at least one of a form use option, a view customization option, a short cut option, a sort option, an edit search option, a store option and an edit form option.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step (b) of using comprises a step of d) communicating via at least one of a Bluetooth protocol, a Wireless Application protocol, a Global System Mobile protocol, and a Wireless Markup Language protocol.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmissable media content comprises at least one of email data, address data, calendar data, form data, navigation data and search data.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising a step of e) communicating the transmissable media content from a data source remote from the wireless client device.

6. A system for operating a search application via networkable media in a wireless client device, comprising:

an input interface to accept at least one search option for execution on the wireless client device; and

a processor unit, communicating with the input interface, the processor unit configured to use the search application to receive transmissable media content via a wireless medium based on the at least one search option.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the processor unit is configured to select at least one of a form use option, a view customization option, a short cut option, a sort option, an edit search option, a store option and an edit form option.

8. The system of claim 6, wherein the receiving of the transmissable media content comprises communicating via at least one of a Bluetooth protocol, a Wireless Application Protocol, a Global System Mobile protocol and a Wireless Markup Language protocol.

9. The system of claim 6, wherein the transmissable media content comprises at least one of email data, address data, calendar data, form data, navigation data and search data.

10. The system of claim 6, wherein the transmissable media content is transmitted from a data source remote from the wireless client device.

11. A system for operating a search application via networkable media in a wireless client device, comprising:

input interface means to accept at least one application option for execution on the wireless client device; and

processor means, communicating with the input interface means, the processor means configured to use the search application to receive transmissable media content via a wireless medium based on the at least one search option.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the processor means is configured to select at least one of a form use option, a view customization option, a short cut option, a sort option, an edit search option, a store option and an edit form option.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the receiving of the transmissable media content comprises communicating via at least one of a Bluetooth protocol, a Wireless Application Protocol, a Global System Mobile protocol and a Wireless Markup Language protocol.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the transmissable media content comprises at least one of email data, address data, calendar data, form data, navigation data and search data.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the transmissable media content is transmitted from a data source remote from the wireless client device.

17. The storage medium of claim 16, wherein the selecting of step (a) comprises a step c) of selecting at least one of a form use option, a view customization option, a short cut option, a sort option, an edit search option, a store option and an edit form option.

18. The storage medium of claim 16, wherein the step (b) of receiving comprises a step of d) communicating via at least one of a Bluetooth protocol, a Wireless Application Protocol, a Global System Mobile protocol and a Wireless Markup Language protocol.

19. The storage medium of claim 16, wherein the transmissable media content comprises at least one of email data, address data, calendar data, form data, navigation data and search data.

20. The storage medium of claim 16, further comprising a step of e) communicating the transmissable media content from a data source remote from the wireless client device.

16. A storage medium for storing machine readable code, the machine readable code being executable to operate a search application via networkable media in a wireless client device according to the steps of:

(a) selecting at least one search option for execution on the wireless client device; and

(b) using the search application to receive transmissable media content via a wireless medium based on the at least one search option.
