1. A multi-layer sheet assembly for forming a CD label and jewel case insert comprising:
- a multi-layer sheet, comprising an upper face stock sheet and a lower liner sheet;
a layer of adhesive between said two sheets;
said face stock sheet being die cut in a first area to form a CD label, and being die cut in a second area to form a rectangular jewel case insert;
said liner sheet being coated with a release layer in said first area to permit easy removal of said CD label; and
said upper and lower sheets being firmly secured together in said second area to form a double thickness jewel case insert.

Abstract
Multi-layer sheet assemblies and methods for their use are disclosed, utilizing an indicia receivable label for media storage devices and associated inserts. These multi-layer sheet assemblies are provided with overall dimensions that facilitate easy feeding into and through printers, where desired indicia may be disposed onto the provided media storage label and associated insert. Software may be provided which contains templates to assist in the proper placement of indicia on the multi-layer sheet assemblies, including the label and the front and back of the insert. The assemblies provided may be configured for labeling various media storage devices, including CDs. A single multi-layer sheet assembly may include both a CD label and an insert for a CD jewel case, and both the label and insert may be printed all in one pass through a printer.

4. A multi-layer sheet assembly for machine printable indicia comprising:

a face-stock layer;
an adhesive layer affixed to said face stock layer;
a liner layer affixed to said adhesive layer;
a media storage label with a detachable positioning element pre-cut in said face stock layer;
said pre-cut, detachable positioning element being free of said adhesive layer;
said liner layer being coated with a release layer beneath said media storage label; and
an insert pre-cut in said face stock layer;

11. A multi-layer sheet assembly for forming a CD label and jewel case insert comprising:

said face stock sheet being die cut in a first area to form a CD label, and being die cut in a second area to form a rectangular jewel case insert; and

21. A method of labeling compact discs and providing a jewel case insert comprising the steps of:

forming a two-layer sheet assembly with a liner layer and a face stock layer, said two-layer sheet assembly having pressure sensitive adhesive between the two layers, said face stock layer being die cut to form (1) a CD label, and (2) a jewel case insert;
said liner layer having a release coating in the area of the CD label;
printing indicia and/or images onto the face stock layer on both the label area and also the insert portions of the face stock;
printing indicia and/or images onto the liner layer portion of said jewel case insert;
removing the CD label and the insert from the two-layer sheet;
mounting the CD label onto a compact disk; and
inserting the jewel case insert into the lid or backside of the CD jewel case;
whereby printing and/or images may be applied concurrently to both the CD label and to the CD insert, all in one pass through a printer. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23)
