Abstract

A tobacco product is formed by rolling a sheet of material supplied by a roll or rolls (e.g. moistened tobacco leaves) and/or homogenized sheet tobacco about a slit mandrel to form a shaped tube. The shaped tube is then packaged for shipment to an end user or consumer. The shaped tube remains in the rolled, shaped tube form inside the package. After the shaped tube is removed from the package, a consumer can fill the tube with crushed tobacco leaves or other tobacco filler material of a favorite blend, thereby eliminating some steps in the making of a “roll-your-own” tobacco product. A liquid can be added to the sheet or to the finished tube to moisturize same. The liquid can include flavoring. The tubes are unfilled when packaged and sent to a consumer/end user in tube form so that they have a “memory” that helps hold a tubular cigar shape after they are filled with selected tobacco fill material.

Claims

1. A method of fabricating a cigar tube product for holding an end user'"'"'s tobacco fill material, comprising the steps of:

a) providing an elongated sheet of material on a roll, the material containing at least in part, tobacco material, said sheet having a perimeter;

b) cutting the elongated sheet into sheet sections;

c) shaping each sheet section to form a tube shaped member having first and second end portions and an elongated longitudinally extending bore, the sheet section having two opposed portions that can be separated to enable a combustible smoking filler material to be added to said longitudinal bore;

d) packaging at least one shaped tube in a wrapper; and

e) wherein the tube shaped member formed in steps “

a”

b” and

“

c”

is not formed by removing the combustible filler of an existing prefabricated cigar.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein step “

b”

includes cutting each sheet section to a generally rectangular shape.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the sheet is layered with first and second layers that are provided in roll form on respective first and second rolls.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein in step “

b”

the roll is cut into sheet sections, each section having a plurality of sides.

5. The method of claim further comprising the step of applying moisture to the sheet.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of applying moisture to at least one tube shaped member.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of supporting the sheet with a form in step “

c”

.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of wrapping the sheet about a form in step “

c”

so that a spirally wrapped tube is formed.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the form is slit and further comprising the step of inserting one side of each sheet section into the slit of the form.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the sheet in step “

is tobacco leaf material and further comprising the step of supporting the tobacco leaf material with a form during step “

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the form is slit and further comprising the step of inserting one side of each sheet section into the slit of the form.

12. A method of fabricating a cigar tube product for holding an end user'"'"'s tobacco fill material, comprising the steps of:

a) forming a sheet of layered material that contains at least in part, tobacco material, said sheet having at least two layers that are supplied from first and second provided sheet material dispensing rolls;

b) cutting the layered sheet material into sheet sections, each sheet section having a perimeter;

c) shaping a plurality of sheet sections to form a plurality of hollow tube shaped it members, each having first and second end portions and an elongated longitudinally extending bore;

At d) each hollow tube member having opposed edges that can be pulled apart to enable a combustible smoking filler material to be added to said longitudinal bore;

e) packaging at least one hollow tube member in a wrapper; and

f) wherein each packaged tube member is not filled with tobacco when packaged in step “

e.”

13. The method of claim 12 wherein step “

a”

includes forming the sheet into a generally rectangular shape.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein in step “

b”

each sheet section has four sides.

15. The method of claim 12 further comprising the step of applying moisture to each hollow tube member.

16. The method of claim 12 further comprising the step of applying moisture to the sheet of layered material.

17. The method of claim 12 wherein in step “

the sheet is in roll form.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the sheet is a multilayer sheet.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein the sheet is formed by binding together two layers of material that are each supplied by a roll of material, one roll being a binder layer, the other layer being a tobacco leaf material layer.

20. The method of claim 19 further comprising the step of adhering the two layers together using an adhesive.

21. The method of claim 20 further comprising the step of adding a liquid to the two layers after they are adhered together.

22. The method of claim 18 wherein the multilayer sheet includes a binder layer and a wrapper layer.

23. A method of fabricating a cigar tube product for holding an end user'"'"'s tobacco fill material, comprising the steps of:

a) providing a roll including layers of a sheet material that includes tobacco;

b) cutting the roll of material into a plurality of sheet sections;

c) rolling each sheet section into a shaped tube that has a longitudinal bore, and sheet section edges that can be separated to enable a user to add tobacco material to the bore;

d) packaging at least one shaped tube in a wrapper; and

e) and wherein the at least one tube that is packaged in step “

d”

is not filled with tobacco.

24. The method of claim 23 further comprising the step of adding moisture to the sheet of material.

25. The method of claim 23 wherein the sheet material of step “

a”

is entirely comprised of tobacco material.

26. The method of claim 23 wherein in step “

d”

the packaging is comprised of cellophane material.

27. The method of claim 23 further comprising the step of unwrapping the shaped tube from the wrapper and adding tobacco material to the bore of the shaped tube.

28. The method of claim 23 wherein the wrapper in step “

d”

is of a clear transparent material.

29. The method of claim 23 wherein the wrapped, shaped tubes in step “

d”

do not contain any tobacco fill material.

30. The method of claim 23 wherein each shaped tube is scented.

multiple layers of sheet material are provided in rolls and further comprising laminating material from each roll to form said sheet material.

32. A method of fabricating a cigar tube product for holding an end user'"'"'s tobacco fill material, comprising the steps of:

a) providing a sheet of material that includes tobacco;

b) rolling the sheet of material into a shaped tube that has a longitudinal bore and edge portions that can be moved apart so that tobacco fill material can be added to the bore;

c) packaging the shaped tube in a wrapper; and

d) wherein the shaped tube that is packaged in step “

c”

is not filled with tobacco before said packaging.

33. The method of claim 32 further comprising the step of adding moisture to the sheet of material

34. The method of claim 32 wherein the sheet is entirely comprised of tobacco material.

35. The method of claim 32 wherein in step “

the packaging is of cellophane material.

36. The method of claim 32 further comprising unwrapping the shaped tube from the wrapper and adding tobacco material to the bore.

37. The method of claim 32 wherein the wrapper is of a clear, transparent material.

38. The method of claim 32 wherein the wrapped, shaped tube in step “

does not contain any tobacco fill material.

39. The method of claim 32 further comprising adding a scented liquid to the sheet material.

40. A method of fabricating a cigar tube product for holding an end user'"'"'s tobacco fill material, comprising the steps of:

a) providing a sheet of material that includes tobacco;

b) rolling the sheet of material into a shaped tube that has a longitudinal bore, curved edges, and generally straight edges that can be moved apart so that tobacco fill material can be added to the bore by a consumer or end user after step “

c”

;

c) packaging the shaped tube in a wrapper that has at least a clear portion for enabling a consumer to see the shaped tube;

d) wherein the tube remains in an incomplete cigar form inside the wrapper, enabling a consumer to complete the cigar tube by removing the tube from the wrapper and adding material to it.

41. The method of claim 40 further comprising the step of adding moisture to the sheet of material.

42. The method of claim 40 wherein the sheet is entirely comprised of tobacco material.

43. The method of claim 40 wherein in step “

the packaging is a cellophane material.

44. The method of claim 40 further comprising unwrapping the shaped tube from the wrapper and adding tobacco material to the bore.

45. The method of claim 40 wherein the wrapper is of a clear material in step “

does not contain any tobacco fill material.

47. The method of claim 40 wherein the tube is scented.

50. A method of constructing a cigar comprising the steps of:

a) providing a sheet of material that includes tobacco material;

b) moistening the sheet of material with liquid;

c) rolling the sheet of material into a shaped tube that has a longitudinal bore and at least two edges that can be moved apart so that tobacco fill material can be added to the bore; and

d) packaging the shaped tube in a wrapper for sale to a consumer and without filling the tube bore with tobacco fill material.

51. The method of claim 50 wherein the tube has a generally cylindrical shape.

52. The method of claim 50 wherein the sheet of material is comprised of tobacco leaves.

53. The method of claim 50 wherein the sheet of material has a plurality of edges and in step “

two of the edges are brought together with a slit therebetween.

54. The method of claim 50 further comprising the step of packaging a plurality of the shaped tubes in a single packaging unit for sale to a consumer.

55. The method of claim 50 wherein the liquid is flavored.

56. The method of claim 50 wherein the liquid includes at least in part, alcohol.

57. The method of claim 50 wherein the liquid includes a solvent.

a) providing a sheet of material that includes tobacco material;

b) rolling the sheet of material into a shaped tube that has a longitudinal bore, plurality of edges, including two edges that can be moved apart so that tobacco fill material can be added to the bore;

c) moistening the shaped tube with liquid; and

d) packaging the shaped tube in a wrapper for sale to a consumer and without filling the tube bore with tobacco fill material.

83. The method of claim 82 wherein the tube has a generally cylindrical shape.

84. The method of claim 82 wherein the sheet of material is comprised of tobacco leaves.

85. The method of claim 82 wherein the sheet of material has a plurality of edges and in step “

two of the edges are brought together with a slit therebetween.

86. The method of claim 82 further comprising the step of packaging a plurality of the shaped tubes in a single packing unit for sale to a consumer.

b) rolling the sheet of material into an unfilled shaped tube that has a longitudinal bore, a plurality of edge portions including two edge portions that can be moved apart so that tobacco fill material can be added to the bore;

c) moistening the shaped tube with liquid in steps “

; and

d) packaging the unfilled shaped tube in a wrapper for sale to a consumer and without filling the tube bore with tobacco fill material.

146. A method of making a tobacco product, comprising the steps of:

a) providing a substantially cylindrical form casing;

b) rolling moistened tobacco leaves about the form casing to form a hollow tobacco leaf shell; and

c) allowing said tobacco leaf shell to dry, while wrapped on the form casing.

147. The method of claim 146, further comprising a step of making a longitudinal slit through a wall of the dry tobacco leaf shell and removing the form casing from said tobacco leaf shell.

148. The method of claim 146, further comprising a step of depositing a non-stick coating on an outer surface of said form casing prior to rolling said tobacco leaves about said form casing, thereby facilitating removal of said form casing from said tobacco leaf shell.

149. The method of claim 146, wherein said form casing is formed from a rigid cardboard material.

150. The method of claim 146, further comprising a step of removing said form casing from said dry tobacco leaf shell and depositing crushed tobacco leaves into a central opening formed in said tobacco leaf shell after the form casing has been removed.

151. A method of constructing a tobacco product, comprising:

a) providing a hollow shell having a central opening extending longitudinally therethrough, said shell being formed from homogenized tobacco paper;

b) forming a longitudinal slit in a sidewall of the shell to allow placing of crushed tobacco into said central opening via said slit;

c) wherein the shell is formed by wrapping the homogenized tobacco paper about a removable form casing; and

d) wherein the sheet of material and the shell formed in steps “

a”

through “

c”

are not formed by removing the combustible filler of an existing prefabricated cigar.

152. A method of constructing a tobacco product, comprising:

a) fabricating, using tobacco leaves, a hollow shell having a central opening extending longitudinally therethrough;

b) forming a longitudinal slit in a sidewall of the shell to allow placing of crushed tobacco into said central opening;

c) wherein the shell is not formed in steps “

a” and

“

b”

by cutting open a cigar having innermost layers and removing the innermost layers.

153. A method of constructing a tobacco product, comprising:

a) forming a hollow shell having a central bore extending longitudinally therethrough, said shell being formed from rolled tobacco leaves, the shell having a longitudinal slit formed in a sidewall of the shell to allow the placement of crushed tobacco into said central bore;

b) wherein the shell is formed in step “

a”

by wrapping the tobacco leaves about a removable form casing, and the longitudinal slit is formed in the sidewall of the shell while the shell is on the removable form casing; and

c) wherein the shell is not formed in steps “

a” and

“

b”

by cutting open a cigar having innermost layers and removing the innermost layers.

154. The method of claim 153, wherein in step “

a”

said shell is wrapped about a removable form casing, said form casing having an outside diameter, which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the central opening.

155. The method of claim 153, wherein said form casing is provided with a non-stick coating deposited on an outer surface of the form casing.

156. A method of constructing a tobacco product, comprising:

a) providing a removable, substantially cylindrical form casing;

b) forming a shell body having a central longitudinally extending bore;

c) wrapping said shell body about said form casing;

d) making a longitudinal slit in a sidewall of the shell body to enable the placement of crushed tobacco into said central bore; and

e) forming the shell body in step “

b”

by wrapping the tobacco leaves about a removable form casing, and the longitudinal slit is formed in the sidewall of the shell while the shell is on the removable form casing.

157. The method of claim 156, wherein said central opening is adapted for receiving crushed tobacco after said form casing has been removed.

158. A method of fabricating a cigar, comprising the steps of:

a) forming an elongated tubular shell of material that contains at least in part, tobacco leaf material, said sheet having a perimeter that includes a plurality of sides;

b) shaping the tubular shell to form a generally cylindrically shaped member having first and second curved end portions, first and second generally straight edge portions and an elongated longitudinally extending bore;

c) separating said straight edge portions, enabling a combustible smoking filler material to be added to said longitudinal bore; and

d) wherein the sheet of material and the shell formed in steps “

a” and

“

b”

are not formed by removing the combustible filler of an existing prefabricated cigar.

159. The method of claim 158 wherein step “

includes forming the sheet into a generally rectangular shape.

160. The method of claim 158 wherein in step “

the sheet is formed into a sheet that has four sides.

161. The method of claim 158 further comprising the step of applying moisture to the shell.

162. The method of claim 158 further comprising the step of applying moisture to the tobacco leaf material.

163. The method of claim 161 further comprising the step of supporting the leaf material with a form until the leaf material has substantially dried.

164. The method of claim 162 further comprising the step of supporting the leaf material with a form until the leaf material has substantially dried.

165. The method of claim 163 further comprising the step of coating the form with a non-stick material.

166. The method of claim 164 further comprising the step of coating the form with a non-stick material.

167. The method of claim 158 further comprising the step of supporting the leaf material with a form.

168. The method of claim 167 further comprising the step of coating the form with a non-stick material.

169. A method of fabricating a cigar, comprising the steps of:

a) forming a sheet of material that contains at least in part, tobacco leaf material, said sheet having a perimeter that includes a plurality of sides, and a pair of opposed surfaces;

b) shaping the sheet to form a generally cylindrically shaped hollowed shell member having first and second end portions and a pair of spaced apart sides that are generally straight and

c) separating said pair of generally straight shoulders enabling a combustible smoking filler material to be added to said longitudinal bore; and

d) wherein the sheet of material and the shell formed in steps “

a” and

are not formed by removing the combustible filler of an existing prefabricated cigar.

170. The method of claim 170 wherein step “

includes forming the sheet into a generally rectangular shape.

180. A tobacco product comprising:

(a) a first layer of material;

(b) a second layer of material in contact with the first layer of material;

(c) the first and second layers of material having a memory wherein the layers tend to curve;

(d) the first and second layers forming a cylinder with a bore and having opposed edge portions that can be separated apart to open the bore;

(e) the bore being less than about twenty five percent filled with a tobacco filler product; and

(f) the cylinder being packaged.

181. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the bore is unfilled.

182. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the first layer has a straight edge.

183. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the first layer has a serrated edge.

184. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the first layer has a frayed edge.

185. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the first layer of material is formed from tobacco leaves.

186. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the first layer of material is formed from at least a reconstituted tobacco product.

187. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the first layer of material is a homogenized tobacco paper.

188. The tobacco product of claim 180, further comprising a moisturizing agent.

189. The tobacco product of claim 180, further comprising an additive for scent or taste.

190. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the cylinder is individually packaged.

191. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the cylinder is packaged with at least one additional cylinder.

192. The tobacco product of claim 180, wherein the cylinder is boxed.

193. A tobacco product comprising:

(a) a layer of material having a memory wherein the layer tends to curve;

(b) the layer forming a cylinder having a longitudinal bore and a plurality of edge portions;

(c) the bore being less than about twenty five percent filled with a tobacco filler product; and

(d) the cylinder being packaged.

194. The tobacco product of claim 193, wherein the bore is unfilled.

195. The tobacco product of claim 193, wherein the layer has at least one straight edge.

196. The tobacco product of claim 193, wherein the layer has at least one serrated edge.

197. The tobacco product of claim 193, wherein the layer has at least one frayed edge.

198. The tobacco product of claim 193, wherein the layer of material is formed from tobacco leaves.

259. The device of claim 257, wherein said shell is wrapped about a removable form casing, said form casing having a pre-determined outside diameter, which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the central opening.

260. The device of claim 259 wherein said form casing is provided with a non-stick coating deposited on an outer surface of the form casing.

261. A shell for a tobacco product, comprising:

(a) a removable substantially cylindrical form casing; and

(b) a shell body having a central opening extending longitudinally therethrough, said shell body being wrapped about said form casing, said shell body comprising tobacco leaves.

262. The shell of claim 261, wherein said central opening is adapted for receiving crushed tobacco after said form casing has been removed.

263. A tobacco product comprising:

(a) a first sheet;

(b) a second sheet in contact with at least a portion of the first sheet;

(c) at least the first sheet having a memory wherein the sheet tends to roll up;

(d) the first and second sheets forming a cylinder having a plurality of edge portions;

(e) the cylinder being less than about twenty five percent filled with a tobacco filler product; and

(f) the cylinder being packaged.

(c) the longitudinal bore being less than about twenty five percent filled with a tobacco filler product; and

(d) a package of such dimensions to maintain the sheet in the formed configuration until the sheet and tube are removed from the package to fill with tobacco material.

277. The tobacco shell of claim 276, wherein the bore is unfilled.

278. The tobacco shell of claim 276, wherein the package has an opening between opposing walls which prevents the sheet from unrolling until removed from the package to insert tobacco fill material into the tube.

279. A tobacco shell product, comprising:

(a) a sheet of tobacco-containing material;

(b) a tube for receiving the material there around;

(c) a longitudinal bore formed in the material when the sheet is wrapped around the tube;

and

(d) a package of such dimensions for receiving the wrapped material wherein the package maintains the sheet in the wrapped configuration until the sheet and tube are removed from the package to fill with a tobacco fill material.

280. A fabricated cigar product, comprising:

(a) a shell of material containing in part tobacco;

(b) a tube for wrapping the shell of material there around to define a cigar shape; and

(c) a wrapper, of such dimensions, for receiving the wrapped shell, and upon removal of the tube, walls of the wrapper maintaining the shell in the cigar shape until the tube is removed from the package to fill with tobacco.

281. A shell for assembling custom-made rolls of tobacco for smoking, comprising

(a) a sheet of combustible material which is at least partially coiled at rest and which has not been part of a previously assembled cigar or cigarette;

(b) the sheet of material having at least two edges and a surface area located between the edges;

(c) the surface area having an inner surface and an outer surface, and

(d) wherein an edge of the sheet of material at rest extends along and adjacent to part of a surface of the sheet of material; and

(e) the edges being separable, providing access to the inner surface of the sheet of material for depositing thereon tobacco products to be smoked.

282. The shell of claim 281 wherein the sheet of material is comprised of an inner layer and an outer layer, and wherein the outer layer extends beyond the inner layer along the edge of the sheet of material and forms a slit.

283. The shell of claim 282 wherein the edge of the sheet of material which forms the slit is serrated.

284. The shell of claim 282 wherein the edge of the sheet of material which forms the slit is roughened.

285. The shell of claim 281 wherein the inner layer of the sheet of material is made of homogenized tobacco material and the outer layer of the sheet of material is made of tobacco leaf product.

286. The shell of claim 281 wherein the sheet of material at rest is configured in a spiraled coil.

287. The shell of claim 281 wherein the sheet of material is moistened with a flavored liquid.

288. A shell for assembling custom-made rolls of tobacco for smoking, comprising:

(a) a sheet of combustible material which has not been part of a previously assembled cigar or cigarette;

(b) said sheet of material having at least two edges and a surface area located between said edges;

(c) said area having an inner surface and an outer surface;

(d) wherein the sheet is at least partially coiled at rest; and

(e) said edges being separable to provide access to the inner surface of the sheet of material for depositing thereon tobacco products to be smoked in the shell.

289. Apparatus including a pre-formed cigar rolling wrapper product comprising:

(a) a coiled sheet of combustible material which can be uncoiled enough to add shredded tobacco therein, the coiled sheet not being formed by cutting open a pre-formed cigar and removing tobacco therefrom, and the coiled sheet having an outer edge being affixable against the coiled sheet after tobacco is added therein to form a cigar; and

(b) a hollow package for holding the unfilled coiled sheet.

290. The apparatus of claim 289, wherein the pre-formed cigar rolling wrapper product is packaged without tobacco therein in a substantially air-tight container.

291. The apparatus of claims 289 or 290, wherein the coiled sheet of combustible material includes humectant material to help prevent the coiled sheet of combustible material from drying out before the coiled sheet is used to form a cigar.

292. The apparatus of claims 289, 290, or 291, wherein the outer edge of the coiled sheet includes a serrated edge.

293. The apparatus of any one of claims 289-292, wherein the coiled sheet, before being coiled, has approximate dimensions of 1-12 inches by 1-12 inches.

294. The apparatus of any one of claims 289-293, wherein the coiled sheet comprises tobacco material.

295. The apparatus of any one of claims 289-294, wherein the coiled sheet comprises tobacco leaves.

296. The apparatus of any one of claims 289-295, wherein the coiled sheet comprises tobacco leaves and homogenized tobacco paper.

299. A device for preparing a tobacco product, comprising:

a hollow shell having a central opening longitudinally therethrough, said shell being formed from homogenized tobacco paper, the shell having a longitudinal slit in a sidewall of the shell to allow placing of crushed tobacco into said central opening, wherein the shell is formed by wrapping the homogenized tobacco paper about a removable form casing; and

wherein said shell is wrapped about a removable form casing, said form casing having an outside diameter, which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the central opening.

300. The device of claim 299, wherein said form casing is provided with a non-stick coating deposited on an outer surface of the form casing.

301. A device for preparing a tobacco product, comprising:

a removable substantially cylindrical form casing; and

a shell body having a central opening extending longitudinally therethrough, said shell body being wrapped about said form casing, said shell body comprising homogenized tobacco paper, the shell body having a longitudinal slit formed in a sidewall of the shell body to allow placing of crushed tobacco into said central opening after the form casing is removed from the shell body, wherein the shell is formed by wrapping the homogenized tobacco paper about the removable form casing.

302. The device of claim 301, wherein said central opening is adapted for receiving crushed tobacco after said form casing has been removed.

303. The invention of any one of claims 299-302, wherein there are multiple layers of homogenized tobacco paper.

304. The invention of any prior claim, wherein the homogenized tobacco paper comprises beta cyclodextrine.
