26. A composite tubular assembly, comprising:
- a tubular core of fluid conducting flexible material having an external curved surface;
a first set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which first set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core; and
a flexible first sheet substantially around said strips to confine said strips together in the superimposed relation.

Abstract
A composite tubular assembly formed by a core or tube which is reinforced by a multitape product which is wrapped in alternate non-bonded helical wraps on the core or tube. Each tape is first formed by impregnating a fibrous strip with a resin and then such tapes are fed from spools to the core of the tube.

a first set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which first set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core; and

an adhesive between said strips to bond said strips together.

a tubular core of fluid conducting flexible material having an external curved surface;
a first set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which first set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core;
a second set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which said second set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core;
some of said strips in each said set being non-metallic;
an adhesive between said strips in each of said first and second sets to bond said strips in each of said sets separately; and
wherein said first set is in at least partially non-bonding contact with said second set to provide limited relative sliding movement therebetween upon the flexing of said tubular core.

a tubular core of fluid conducting flexible material having an external curved surface;
a first set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which said first set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core;
a flexible first sheet substantially around said strips to confine said strips together in the superimposed relation; and
wherein said first sheet is in non-bonding contact with said core to provide limited relative sliding movement therebetween upon the flexing of said core.

a first set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which said first set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core; and
wherein said bonded strips are in non-bonding contact with said core to provide limited relative sliding movement therebetween upon the flexing of said core.

a tubular core of fluid conducting flexible material having an external curved surface;
a first set of a plurality of superimposed substantially coextensive strips of material, which said first set is thin and flexible enough to bend to substantially conform to the curved external surface of said core;
said bonded strips being in non-bonding contact with said core to provide limited relative sliding movement therebetween upon the flexing of said core;
some of said strips being non-metallic; and
including an adhesive between said strips to bond said strips together.

35. A method of forming a composite tubular assembly, comprising:

superimposing a first set of a plurality of thin flexible strips of material substantially coextensively with each other;
wrapping a flexible first sheet substantially around said strips to maintain said strips in the superimposed relation; and
wrapping said first sheet and said strips substantially enclosed therewith helically around the tubular core in a non-bonding relationship with said core to provide limited sliding relative movement between said first sheet and said core upon the flexing of said core.

36. A method of forming a composite tubular assembly, comprising:

superimposing a first set of a plurality of thin flexible strips of material substantially coextensively with each other;
superimposing a second set of a plurality of thin flexible strips of material substantially coextensively with each other; and
wrapping said first set and said second set at opposite helical angles on a fluid conducting tube of flexible material without bonding either of said sets to each other or to said tube so as to provide limited sliding relative movement of said strips relative to each other and to said tube. - View Dependent Claims (37)
