Abstract

A light emitting device which is capable of suppressing deterioration by diffusion of impurities such as moisture, oxygen, alkaline metal and alkaline earth metal, and concretely, a flexible light emitting device which has light emitting element formed on a plastic substrate. On the plastic substrate, disposed are two layers and more of barrier films comprising a layer represented by AlNxOy which is capable of blocking intrusion of moisture and oxygen in a light emitting layer and blocking intrusion of impurities such as an alkaline metal and an alkaline earth metal in an active layer of TFT, and further, a stress relaxation film containing resin is disposed between two layers of barrier films.

Claims

1. A light emitting device comprising:

a light emitting element over a substrate having an insulating surface, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer,

wherein a layer comprising Al, N and O is provided in contact with the substrate.

2. A light emitting device according to claim 1, wherein a light emitting element is covered by a layer comprising Al, N and O.

3. A light emitting device according to claim 1, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

4. A light emitting device according to claim 1, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

5. A light emitting device according to claim 1, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

6. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 1, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

7. A light emitting device comprising:

a first substrate;

a second substrate; and

a light emitting element between the first and second substrates, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with a organic compound layer,

wherein a layer comprising Al, N and O is provided in contact with the first substrate and the second substrate, respectively, and

wherein a light emitting element is covered by the layer comprising Al, N and O.

8. A light emitting device according to claim 7, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

9. A light emitting device according to claim 7, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

10. A light emitting device according to claim 7, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

11. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 7, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

12. A light emitting device comprising:

a light emitting element over a substrate having an insulating surface, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer,

wherein a lamination layer having a layer comprising Al, N and O and a layer comprising organic resin is provided in contact with the substrate.

13. A light emitting device according to claim 12, wherein stress of the layer comprising organic resin is smaller than that of the layer comprising Al, N and O.

14. A light emitting device according to claims 12, wherein the layer comprising the organic resin comprises a layer adhering the substrate.

15. A light emitting device according to claim 12, wherein the light emitting element is covered by a layer comprising Al, N and O.

16. A light emitting device according to claim 12, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

17. A light emitting device according to claim 12, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

18. A light emitting device according to claim 12, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

19. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 12, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

20. A light emitting device comprising:

a first substrate;

a second substrate;

a light emitting element between the first and second substrates, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer,

wherein a lamination layer having a layer comprising Al, N and O and a layer comprising organic resin is provide in contact with the first substrate and the second substrate, respectively, and

wherein the light emitting element is covered by a layer comprising Al, N and O.

21. A light emitting device according to claim 20, wherein stress of the layer comprising organic resin is smaller than that of the layer comprising Al, N and O.

22. A light emitting device according to claims 20, wherein the layer comprising the organic resin comprises a layer adhering the first substrate or the second substrate.

23. A light emitting device according to claim 20, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

24. A light emitting device according to claim 20, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

25. A light emitting device according to claim 20, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

26. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 20, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

27. A light emitting device comprising:

a substrate comprising polyimide;

a lamination layer on the substrate wherein the laminated layer has a layer comprising Al, N and O, a layer comprising organic resin on the layer comprising Al, N and O, and the layer comprising Al, N and O on the layer comprising organic resin; and

a light emitting element over the laminated layer, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer.

28. A light emitting device according to claim 27, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

29. A light emitting device according to claim 27, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

30. A light emitting device according to claim 27, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

31. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 27, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

32. A light emitting device comprising:

a substrate comprising polyethylene sulfayl;

a lamination layer on the substrate wherein the laminated layer has a layer comprising Al, N and O, a layer comprising organic resin on the layer comprising Al, N and O, and the layer comprising Al, N and O on the layer comprising organic resin; and

a light emitting element over the laminated layer, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer.

33. A light emitting device according to claim 32, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

34. A light emitting device according to claim 32, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

35. A light emitting device according to claim 32, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

36. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 32, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

37. A light emitting device comprising:

a substrate comprising polycarbonate;

a lamination layer on the substrate wherein the laminated layer has a layer comprising Al, N and O, a layer comprising organic resin on the layer comprising Al, N and O, and the layer comprising Al, N and O on the layer comprising organic resin; and

a light emitting element over the laminated layer, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer.

38. A light emitting device according to claim 37, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

39. A light emitting device according to claim 37, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

40. A light emitting device according to claim 37, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

41. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 37, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

42. A light emitting device comprising:

a substrate comprising polyethylene terephthalate;

a lamination layer on the substrate wherein the laminated layer has a layer comprising Al, N and O, a layer comprising organic resin on the layer comprising Al, N and O, and the layer comprising Al, N and O on the layer comprising organic resin; and

a light emitting element over the laminated layer, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer.

43. A light emitting device according to claim 42, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

44. A light emitting device according to claim 42, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

45. A light emitting device according to claim 42, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

46. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 42, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

47. A light emitting device comprising:

a substrate comprising polyethylene naphthalate;

a lamination layer on the substrate wherein the laminated layer has a layer comprising Al, N and O, a layer comprising organic resin on the layer comprising Al, N and O, and the layer comprising Al, N and O on the layer comprising organic resin; and

a light emitting element over the laminated layer, the light emitting element having a cathode, an organic compound layer in contact with the cathode, and an anode in contact with the organic compound layer.

48. A light emitting device according to claim 47, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

49. A light emitting device according to claim 47, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

50. A light emitting device according to claim 47, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

51. An electronic apparatus comprising the light emitting device according to claim 47, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.

52. An electronic apparatus comprising:

one or more of a layer comprising Al, N and O, or a layer comprising organic resin provided between a light emitting device and outside.

53. An electronic apparatus according to claim 52, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains nitrogen of 2.5 atm % to 47.5 atm %.

54. An electronic apparatus according to claim 52, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a 13 group element or a 15 group element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm % as impurities.

55. An electronic apparatus according to claim 52, wherein the layer comprising Al, N and O contains a phosphorous element or boron element of 0.1 atm % to 5 atm %.

56. An electronic apparatus according to claim 52, wherein the electronic apparatus is selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation, a personal computer, and a portable information terminal.
