Abstract

A cardiovascular valve system including a permanent base unit that is affixed to the patient using conventional sutures or staples, and a collapsible valve having a collapsible frame that mates with the permanent base unit, and supports valve leaflets. An installed collapsible frame may be re-collapsed and disengaged from the permanent housing. A new collapsible valve is then installed, to resume the function of the prosthesis.

Claims

1. A remote manipulation system for remotely manipulating an associated medical device movable between an expanded position and a collapsed position, the manipulation system comprising:

first manipulation means for minimally invasive or percutaneous collapse and withdrawal of the medical device; and

second manipulation means for minimally invasive insertion and expansion of the medical device,

wherein said first and second manipulation means include at least one connection means for connecting to the medical device, said first and second manipulation means detachable from the medical device.

2. A remote manipulation system according to claim 1, wherein said at least one connection means facilitates the movement of said medical device between the expanded and collapsed positions.

3. A remote manipulation system according to claim 1, wherein said connection means includes flexible snares.

4. A remote manipulation system according to claim 3, wherein different ends of said flexible snare are contained in the same sheath.

5. A remote manipulation system according to claim 1, wherein said second manipulation means includes articulating struts.

6. A remote manipulation system according to claim 1, wherein said first means and second means can sequentially remove a medical device and insert a replacement medical device, without either of the two means being withdrawn from the patient.

7. A deployable surgical platform, comprising:

expanding means for anchoring the platform at the site of a procedure; and

anchoring means for anchoring one or more catheters to the expanding means.

8. A deployable surgical platform according to claim 7, wherein said expanding means includes an inflatable balloon.

9. A deployable surgical platform according to claim 7, wherein said expanding means is a solid expandable annular means expandable by means of unrolling a rolled-up solid expandable means.

10. A deployable surgical platform according to claim 7, wherein said expanding means includes multiple deformable projections that project from the distal end of a catheter or other tubular device.

11. A deployable surgical platform according to claim 7, wherein said expanding means incorporates a one-way valve.

12. A deployable surgical platform according to claim 7, wherein said expanding means incorporates a mesh or sieve.

13. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device, the system comprising:

a deployable surgical platform anchorable distal to the medical device, the surgical platform including;

(a) hollow expanding means anchorable at the site of the medical device; and

(b) anchoring means for anchoring at least one catheter or surgical tool to the hollow expanding means.

14. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 13, wherein said anchoring means for catheter or surgical tools includes a twist connection.

15. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 13, wherein said anchoring means includes a snap connection.

16. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 13, wherein said system further comprises tracking means to locate the position of said medical device in 3-D space.

17. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 16, wherein said tracking means uses sensors that are mounted to said medical device to locate said medical device in 3-D space.

18. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 13, wherein said at least one catheter has a longitudinally-extending slot, said slot dimensioned to allow a central sliding means to partially project therethrough and slide along said slot.

19. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 18, wherein said central sliding means includes gripping means for reversibly connecting said medical device to said central sliding means.

20. A system for the removal and delivery of a medical device according to claim 18, wherein said central sliding means is moved through a lumen of said at least one catheter by internal pull wire means.
