Abstract

A method and apparatus for terminating a member from a group call in a group communication network provides for receiving an indication from a user who wishes to terminate participation in a group call and sending a request to a server to terminate the user from the group call. The method and apparatus further provides for the server to receive the request for terminating a user from a group call, terminate the user from the group call, and send a response indicating that the user is terminated from the group call.

Claims

1. In a communication device, a method for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the method comprising:

receiving an indication from a user who wishes to terminate participation in a group call; and

sending a request to a server to terminate the user from the group call.

2. The method of claim 1, further including sending a response to the user indicating that the user has been terminated from the group call.

3. In a communication device, a computer-readable medium embodying a method for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the method comprising:

receiving an indication from a user who wishes to terminate participation in a group call; and

sending a request to a server to terminate the user from the group call.

4. The computer-readable medium of claim 3, wherein the method further includes sending a response to the user indicating that the user has been terminated from the group call.

5. A communication device for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, comprising:

means for receiving an indication from a user who wishes to terminate participation in a group call; and

means for sending a request to a server to terminate the user from the group call.

6. The communication device of claim 5, further including means for sending a response to the user indicating that the user has been terminated from the group call.

7. A communication device for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the communication device comprising:

a receiver;

a transmitter; and

a processor communicatively coupled to the receiver and the transmitter, the processor being capable of;

receiving an indication from a user who wishes to terminate participation in a group call; and

sending a request to a server to terminate the user from the group call.

8. The communication device of claim 7, the processor further being capable of sending a response to the user indicating that the user has been terminated from the group call.

9. In a server, a method for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the method comprising:

receiving a request for terminating a user from a group call;

terminating the user from the group call; and

sending a response indicating that the user is terminated from the group call.

10. In a server, a computer-readable medium embodying a method for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the method comprising:

receiving a request for terminating a user from a group call;

terminating the user from the group call; and

sending a response indicating that the user is terminated from the group call.

11. A server for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, comprising:

means for receiving a request for terminating a user from a group call;

means for terminating the user from the group call; and

means for sending a response indicating that the user is terminated from the group call.

12. A server for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the server comprising:

a receiver;

a transmitter; and

a processor communicatively coupled to the receiver and the transmitter, the processor being capable of;

receiving a request for terminating a user from a group call;

terminating the user from the group call; and

sending a response indicating that the user is terminated from the group call.

13. In a server, a method for terminating a group call in a group communication network, the method comprising:

determining when a predetermined time period expires in which no media has been communicated in a group call session;

announcing each participating member in the group call that the group call going to be terminated; and

terminating the group call after receiving acknowledgement from each participating member in the group call.

14. In a server, a computer-readable medium embodying a method for terminating a group call in a group communication network, the method comprising:

determining when a predetermined time period expires in which no media has been communicated in a group call session;

announcing each participating member in the group call that the group call going to be terminated; and

terminating the group call after receiving acknowledgement from each participating member in the group call.

15. A server for terminating a group call in a group communication network, comprising:

means for determining when a predetermined time period expires in which no media has been communicated in a group call session;

means for announcing each participating member in the group call that the group call going to be terminated; and

means for terminating the group call after receiving acknowledgement from each participating member in the group call.

16. A server for terminating a user from a group call in a group communication network, the server comprising:

a receiver;

a transmitter; and

a processor communicatively coupled to the receiver and the transmitter, the processor being capable of;

determining when a predetermined time period expires in which no media has been communicated in a group call session;

announcing each participating member in the group call that the group call going to be terminated; and

terminating the group call after receiving acknowledgement from each participating member in the group call.
