Abstract

A method of securing a soft tissue implant to damaged tissue of a patient is provided. The method includes preparing a layer of extracellular matrices (ECM) for surgery. The method further includes stretching the layer on a frame and securing the layer to the frame. The method includes placing a top surface of the layer adjacent the damaged tissue, drilling multiple holes generally simultaneously through the layer and tissue, and simultaneously inserting a fastener into each drilled hole.

Claims

1. A device for securing and tensioning a soft tissue implant, comprising:

an inner frame having an outer surface, and

an outer frame to be positioned about the inner frame to capture the soft tissue implant about the outer surface.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein a cross-section of the outer surface is concave.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the inner frame is generally circular.

4. The device of claim 2, wherein the inner frame has a diameter of approximately 60 millimeters.

The device of claim 1, wherein the outer frame includes a member having a first end and a second end normally spaced apart from the first end, and an apparatus configured to tighten and loosen the outer frame about the inner frame, the apparatus including a flange coupled to each of the first and second ends and a screw at least partially received within an aperture of each of the flanges.

6. The device of claim 5, wherein the member has a circular cross-section.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein the member has a diameter of 60 millimeters measured from the center of a cross-section.

8. The device of claim 6, wherein the circular cross-section has a diameter of eight millimeters.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the inner frame and the outer frame are made of a flexible material.

10. The device of claim 1, wherein the outer surface of the inner frame is textured.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein a portion of the outer frame is textured.

12. A device for securing and tensioning a soft tissue implant, comprising:

an inner frame having an outer perimetral surface, and

an outer frame having an inner perimetral surface, the frames being configured to position and stretch the soft tissue implant over the inner frame outer perimetral surface under the outer frame inner perimetral surface.

13. A device for securing and tensioning a soft tissue implant, comprising:

a frame, the implant being stretched and secured to the frame, and means for securing the implant to the frame.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the frame is an inner frame member and the securing means is an outer frame member to be placed about the inner frame member and the implant to position the a portion of the implant between the outer frame member and the inner frame member.

15. The device of claim 13, wherein the securing means is a suture.

16. The device of claim 13, wherein the securing means is an adhesive.

17. A drill head for drilling multiple holes through soft tissue or bone in preparation for securing an implant to a patient'"'"'s tissue, the drill head comprising:

a cylindrical hub having a plurality of apertures,

a connector coupled to the hub and adapted to couple with a power drill, and

a drill bit received through each aperture.

18. The drill head of claim 17, wherein the hub further includes a central gear coupled to the connector and peripheral gears each coupled to the central gear for rotation thereby.

19. The drill head of claim 18, wherein a drill bit is coupled to each peripheral gear for rotation therewith.

20. The drill head of claim 17, wherein the flat end of the hub is circular in shape and the plurality of apertures are positioned about a periphery of the flat end.

21. The drill head of claim 17, wherein each drill bit is threaded.

22. A method of securing and tensioning a pliable implant, comprising:

placing the implant over an inner frame,

placing an outer frame over the implant and about the inner frame to position a peripheral portion of the implant between an outer surface of the inner frame and an inner surface of the outer frame, and

tightening the outer frame about the inner frame.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein tightening the outer frame about the inner frame includes reducing the size of the outer frame.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein rotating a thumb screw of the outer frame clockwise to move a first end and a second end of a member closer to each other.

25. A method of securing a pliable implant to damaged tissue of a patient, comprising:

preparing the implant for surgery,

stretching the patch on a frame so that the patch has a contact surface and an opposite surface,

securing the patch to the frame,

placing the contact surface of the patch adjacent the damaged tissue, and

fastening the patch to the damaged tissue.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein fastening includes forming multiple holes through the patch and the tissue.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the holes are formed generally simultaneously.

28. The method of claim 26, wherein fastening further includes inserting a fastener into each hole.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein the fasteners are inserted into the holes generally simultaneously.

30. The method of claim 25, wherein stretching the patch on a frame includes placing the patch over an inner frame, placing an outer frame over the patch and about the inner frame to position a peripheral portion of the patch between an outer surface of the inner frame, and an inner surface of the outer frame.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein securing the patch includes tightening the outer frame about the inner frame.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein tightening the outer frame about the inner frame includes rotating a thumb screw of the outer frame clockwise to move a first end and a second end of the outer frame closer to each other.

33. The method of claim 25, wherein drilling holes through the patch includes placing a drill head within an aperture of the inner frame so that multiple drill bits of the drill head are adjacent to a bottom surface of the patch.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein drilling holes further includes generally simultaneously rotating the pins to puncture the patch.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein drilling holes further includes advancing the pins toward the patch.
