Abstract

A network system includes integrated radio transceivers and digitizers, integrated baseband processors and device controllers, digital interfaces there between, and architectures and partitions for same. Licensing methodologies are provided for implementing the features described herein, and for other products and services.

Claims

1. A method for licensing direct conversion radio/digitizer technology and baseband processor/medium access controller (“

BBP/MAC”

) technology, comprising;

(1) offering a first license to a licensee for the direct conversion radio/digitizer technology;

(2) offering a second license to the licensee for the BBP/MAC technology;

(3) implementing a first royalty fee structure for licensee-devices that include a BBP/MAC that falls within the scope of the second license; and

(4) implementing a second royalty fee structure for licensee-devices that include a direct conversion radio/digitizer that falls within the scope of the first license and a BBP/MAC that falls within the scope of the second license;

wherein the second royalty fee structure is less than the sum of the first royalty fee structure plus a third-party royalty fee structure for a third-party radio.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

(5) implementing a third royalty fee structure for licensee-devices that include a radio that does not fall within the scope of the first license, and a BBP/MAC that falls within the scope of the second license.

3. The method according to claim 2, further comprising:

(6) implementing a fourth royalty fee structure for licensee-devices that include a BBP/MAC and a radio interface that fall within the scope of the second license, wherein the licensee-devices do not include a radio.
