Abstract

A circular saw including a motor housing having a first end portion and a second end portion, a motor assembly disposed within the housing, a rotary blade assembly having a predetermined weight mounted to the first end portion of the motor housing, and a battery pack having a predetermined weight disposed on the second end portion of the motor housing. The battery pack and the rotary blade assembly are configured and arranged to be in longitudinal alignment with one another, and the longitudinal alignment of the battery pack with the rotary blade assembly promotes counterbalancing between the predetermined weight of the rotary blade assembly and the predetermined weight of the motor housing.

Claims

1. A circular saw comprising:

a motor housing having a first end portion and a second end portion;

a motor assembly having disposed within said housing;

a rotary blade assembly having a predetermined weight mounted to said first end portion of said motor housing;

a battery pack having a predetermined weight disposed on said second end portion of said motor housing, said battery pack and said rotary blade assembly configured and arranged to be in longitudinal alignment with one another, and

wherein said longitudinal alignment of said battery pack with said rotary blade assembly promote counterbalancing between said predetermined weight of said rotary blade assembly and said predetermined weight of said motor housing.

2. The circular saw of claim 1 wherein said housing is configured to have a predetermined length, so that a moment arm of said battery pack is substantially equal to a moment arm of said rotary blade assembly.

3. The circular saw of claim 1 wherein said battery pack further includes a stem connector that matingly engages said second end portion of said motor housing.

4. The circular saw of claim 3 wherein said second end portion of said motor housing includes a coupling recess configured to matingly receive said connector extension.

5. The circular saw of claim 1 wherein said first half portion of said motor housing includes a generally planar surface that is generally perpendicular to an axis of rotation of said rotary blade assembly.

6. The circular saw of claim 1 wherein said battery pack includes at least one locking switch for locking said battery pack to said motor housing.

7. The circular saw of claim 6 wherein said motor housing includes at least one engagement portion for matingly receiving said at least one locking switch for locking said battery pack to said motor housing.

8. The circular saw of claim 1 wherein said motor housing further comprises a guide handle assembly.

9. The circular saw of claim 8 wherein said guide handle assembly includes a first handle and a second handle.

The circular saw of claim 9 wherein said first handle includes a first portion and a second portion that are unitary with one another, said first portion being releasably secured to said motor housing at said first half portion and extending in a direction generally perpendicular to an axis of rotation of said rotary blade assembly, and said second portion being releasably secured to said motor housing at said second half portion and extending in a direction generally parallel to the axis of rotation of said rotary blade assembly.

The circular saw of claim 9 wherein said second handle is releasably secured to said motor housing at a top portion and a bottom portion of said motor housing by a top radially extending handle portion and a bottom radially extending handle portion, respectively, and having a grip portion disposed between said top and bottom radially extending handle portions.

12. The circular saw of claim 9 wherein said second handle includes a trigger switch.

13. The circular saw of claim 9 wherein said first handle includes a male extension on said second portion and said second handle includes a female extension to matingly receive said male extension and hold said first handle in releasable locking engagement.

14. A cordless circular saw comprising:

rotary blade means having an axis of rotation;

motorized driving means for driving rotation of said rotary blade means; and

power means for providing modular power to said cordless circular saw, wherein said motorized driving means and said power means are aligned with one another along said axis of rotation of said rotary blade; and

said power means and said rotary blade means are configured and arranged to counterbalance one another along said axis of rotation.
