Abstract

A method and system locate a transponder that has an associated identifier and content data, at a location substantially accessible to a user of the mobile terminal. The transponder is activated by the mobile terminal with a wireless signal. In response, the mobile terminal receives at least the identifier and the content data from the activated transponder at the mobile terminal. From the received identifier and/or content data, the method and system select one or more of the stored data items according to one or more criteria.

Claims

1. A method in a mobile terminal of selecting data items to be included in a service request through an encounter with a transponder, wherein the mobile terminal has one or more data items stored therein, the method comprising:

(a) locating a transponder, having at least an identifier and content data associated therewith, at a location substantially accessible to a user of the mobile terminal;

(b) activating the transponder via a wireless signal transmitted by the mobile terminal;

(c) receiving at least the identifier and the content data from the activated transponder at the mobile terminal when the mobile terminal is physically located within a wireless transmission range of the transponder; and

(d) selecting, from the received identifier and/or content data, one or more of the stored data items according to one or more criteria, including at least one of;

(i) the received identifier,

(ii) the received content data,

(iii) one or more conditions associated with the stored data items, and

(iv) one or more conditions set by the user of the mobile terminal.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

generating the service request based on the one or more selected data items; and

sending the service request to a service provider.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the service request is a Short Message Service (SMS) push request.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the service request is a Multimedia Message Service (MMS) push request.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the service request is a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) request.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the service request is a request for hypertext markup language (HTML) content.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the service request is an instant messaging request.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein step (d) comprises initiating a selection application stored at the mobile terminal.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more conditions associated with the stored data items are stored in the mobile terminal as cards.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more conditions set by the user of the mobile terminal are set before the mobile terminal receives at least the identifier and the content data from the activated transponder.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the selection application is initiated by the user of the mobile terminal.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the selection application is initiated automatically.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

providing information regarding the selected data items to the user for approval;

generating the service request based on the selected data items upon receipt of an approval indication from the user.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

storing the received identifier and content data from the transponder at the mobile terminal.

15. A system in a mobile terminal of selecting data items to be included in a service request through an encounter with a transponder, wherein the mobile terminal has one or more data items stored therein, the system comprising:

means for locating a transponder, having at least an identifier and content data associated therewith, at a location substantially accessible to a user of the mobile terminal;

means for activating the transponder via a wireless signal transmitted by the mobile terminal;

means for receiving at least the identifier and the content data from the activated transponder at the mobile terminal when the mobile terminal is physically located within a wireless transmission range of the transponder; and

means for selecting, from the received identifier and/or content data, one or more of the stored data items according to one or more criteria, including at least one of;

(i) the received identifier,

(ii) the received content data,

(iii) one or more conditions associated with the stored data items, and

(iv) one or more conditions set by the user of the mobile terminal.

16. The system of claim 15, further comprising:

means for generating the service request based on the one or more selected data items; and

means for sending the service request to a service provider.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the service request is a Short Message Service (SMS) push request.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the service request is a Multimedia Message Service (MMS) push request.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the service request is a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) request.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the service request is a request for hypertext markup language (HTML) content.

21. The method of claim 16, wherein the service request is an instant messaging request.

22. The system of claim 15, wherein said means for selecting comprises means for initiating a selection application stored at the mobile terminal.

23. The system of claim 15, wherein the one or more conditions associated with the stored data items are stored in the mobile terminal as cards.

24. The system of claim 15, wherein the one or more conditions set by the user of the mobile terminal are set before the mobile terminal-receives at least the identifier and the content data from the activated transponder.

25. The system of claim 22, wherein the selection application is initiated by the user of the mobile terminal.

26. The method of claim 22, wherein the selection application is initiated automatically.

27. The system of claim 15, further comprising:

means for providing information regarding the selected data items to the user for approval; and

means for generating the service request based on the selected data items upon receipt of an approval indication from the user.

28. The system of claim 15, further comprising:

means for storing the received identifier and content data from the transponder at the mobile terminal.
