Abstract

A system, method and computer readable medium for providing translated web content is disclosed. The method on an information processing system includes retrieving a first content in a first language and parsing the first content into a plurality of translatable components. The method further includes generating a unique identifier for each of the plurality of translatable components of the first content and queuing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers for translation into a second language. The method further includes, for each of the plurality of translatable components, storing a translated component and an associated unique identifier corresponding to the translatable component, thereby storing a plurality of translated components and corresponding unique identifiers.

Claims

1. A method for providing a web based tool for managing language translations of content, the method comprising:

retrieving a first content in a first language;

parsing the first content into a plurality of translatable components;

generating a unique identifier for each of the plurality of translatable components of the first content;

queuing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers for translation into a second language; and

for each of the plurality of translatable components, storing a translated component and an associated unique identifier corresponding to the translatable component, thereby storing a plurality of translated components and corresponding unique identifiers.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein a translatable component includes any one of:

a text segment;

an image file with text to be translated;

a multimedia file with text or audio to be translated;

a file with text to be translated;

a file with image with text to be translated;

a file with audio to be translated; and

a file with video with at least one of text and audio to be translated.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the generating a unique identifier further comprises:

generating a unique identifier for each of the plurality of translatable components that is a text segment, wherein the unique identifier is any one of a hash code, a checksum and a mathematical algorithm for generating a unique identifier based on one or more of the segments.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the queuing the plurality of translatable components comprises:

queuing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers for human translation into a second language.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the queuing the plurality of translatable components further comprises:

providing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers to a third party for human translation into a second language.

The method of claim 1, wherein the first language includes any one of English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic and the second language is different than the first language and includes any one of English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the first content includes text for translation that is not displayed as part of the first content.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

adding formatting information to the plurality of translated components, so as to preserve the format of the first content.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

previewing on a graphical user interface the plurality of translated components that correspond to the first content by placing the translated components into a first content format derived from the first content, thereby enabling a user to review how the translated components are rendered in the first content format.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

highlighting any of the plurality of translatable components which are not yet translated differently from translated components when previewing the plurality of translated components in the first content format.

11. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

displaying text when hovering over a translated component so as to view the first content corresponding to the translated component.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

enabling a user to select at least one of the translated components when previewing the plurality of translated components in the first content format so as to edit the translated component and store the translated component that has been revised with the corresponding unique identifier.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

placing internal references to files referenced in the first content thereby building a list of all internal file references in order to allow a user to view one or more of the files referenced by the list to determine if the file contains text required to be translated.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the first content is web site content.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein previewing is performed in a multi-user environment so that more than one user can simultaneously view translated components rendered in the first content format.

16. A computer system for providing a web based tool for managing language translations of content, comprising:

a connection for retrieving a first content in a first language;

a processor for;

parsing the first content into a plurality of translatable components;

generating a unique identifier for each of the plurality of translatable components of the first content; and

queuing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers for translation into a second language; and

a database for storing a translated component and an associated unique identifier corresponding to the translatable component, for each of the plurality of translatable components, thereby storing a plurality of translated components and corresponding unique identifiers.

17. The computer system of claim 16, wherein a translatable component includes any one of:

a text segment;

an image file with text to be translated;

a multimedia file with text or audio to be translated;

a file with text to be translated;

a file with image with text to be translated;

a file with audio to be translated; and

a file with video with at least one of text and audio to be translated.

18. The computer system of claim 16, wherein the generating a unique identifier further comprises:

generating a unique identifier for each of the plurality of translatable components that is a text segment, wherein the unique identifier is any one of a hash code, a checksum and a mathematical algorithm for generating a unique identifier based on one or more of the segments.

19. The computer system of claim 16, wherein the queuing the plurality of translatable components comprises:

queuing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers for human translation into a second language.

20. The computer system of claim 16, wherein the queuing the plurality of translatable components further comprises:

providing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers to a third party for human translation into a second language.

The computer system of claim 16, wherein the first language includes any one of English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic and the second language is different than the first language and includes any one of English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic.

22. A computer program product including computer instructions for providing a web based tool for managing language translations of content, the computer instructions including instructions for:

retrieving a first content in a first language;

parsing the first content into a plurality of translatable components;

generating a unique identifier for each of the plurality of translatable components of the first content;

queuing the plurality of translatable components and corresponding unique identifiers for translation into a second language; and

for each of the plurality of translatable components, storing a translated component and an associated unique identifier corresponding to the translatable component, thereby storing a plurality of translated components and corresponding unique identifiers.
