Abstract

Disclosed are embodiments for a method and system which allow a user to define and edit workflow applications for a mobile device, screens associated with the applications, and workflow process. The states or schemas for these applications may be stored as records in databases.

Claims

1. A mobile device, comprising:

a processor,

a memory device coupled to the processor, wherein the memory device has instructions for;

displaying a plurality of indicators corresponding to applications,

receiving a selection indicator corresponding to one of the plurality of indicators indicating that an application has been selected;

reading a plurality of variable values corresponding to a selected application, wherein the plurality of values are stored as records in one or more databases stored in the memory device,

reading a state information for the selected application, wherein the state information is stored as records in one or more databases stored in the memory device; and

executing the selected application using the plurality of values and the state information.

2. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the reading state information further comprises reading sub-applications to process and processing the sub-applications according to the state information.

3. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the receiving a selection indicator comprises receiving an indicator from a keypad key.

4. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein reading the state information comprises reading screen information associated with the selected application wherein the screen information is stored as records in one or more databases stored in the memory device.

5. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the executing the selected application comprises executing a separate pre-compiled computer program whose location is defined by the state information associated with the selected application.

6. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the executing the selected application comprises receiving data from a user which are stored as records in a database associated with the selected application.

7. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the memory device further comprises instructions for synchronizing the one or more databases with an enterprise database.

8. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the one or more databases are one or more global variable databases.

9. The mobile device of claim 1 wherein the one or more databases are one or more states application databases.

11. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein the reading state information further comprises reading sub-applications to process and processing the sub-applications according to the state information.

12. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein the receiving a selection indicator comprises receiving an indicator from a keypad key.

13. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein reading the state information comprises reading screen information associated with the selected application wherein the screen information is stored as records in one or more databases stored in the memory device.

14. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein the executing the selected application comprises executing a separate pre-compiled computer program whose location is defined by the state information associated with the selected application.

15. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein the executing the selected application comprises receiving data from a user which are stored as records in a database associated with the selected application.

16. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein the memory device further comprises instructions for synchronizing the one or more databases with an enterprise database.

17. The mobile device of claim 9 wherein the one or more databases are one or more global variable databases.

10. A communications system, comprising:

an enterprise database,

a server in communication with the enterprise database for controlling access to the enterprise database,

a node in communication with the server, wherein the node is adapted to synchronize database records between the enterprise database and local database, and wherein the node has instructions for;

displaying a plurality of indicators corresponding to applications,

receiving a selection indicator corresponding to one of the plurality of indicators indicating that an application has been selected;

reading a plurality of variable values corresponding to a selected application, wherein the plurality of values are stored as records in one or more local databases,

reading a state information for the selected application, wherein the state information is stored as records in one or more local databases; and

executing the selected application using the plurality of values and the state information.

18. A data entry system comprising:

a means for selecting applications to be executed on a mobile device,

a means for associating user interface screens associated with a selected application,

a means for selecting the screen type, and

a means for associating data sources with the selected application, wherein selection indicators for the selected application, selection indicators for the user interface screens, selection indicators for the screen type are stored as records in one or more local databases.
