Abstract

The invention relates to a method of distributing real time data streams across a multimedia network to receiving terminals, wherein a selected real time data streams is transmitted from a media server to a specific receiving terminals, wherein a mediation device is located between said media server and the receiving terminals, that a bi-directional communication with said media server is terminated at said media server for receiving data streams destined for the selected terminal and that said data streams are further forwarded to said selected terminal by means of a uni-directional communication protocol, and also a mediation device and a multimedia network therefore.

Claims

1. A method of distributing real time data streams across a multimedia network to receiving terminals, wherein selected real time data streams is transmitted from a media server to a selected receiving terminal, wherein a mediation device is located in between said media server and the receiving terminal, that a bi-directional communication with said media server is terminated at said media server for receiving data streams destined for the selected terminal and that said data streams are further forwarded to said selected terminal by means of a uni-directional communication protocol.

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein control information is transmitted from a telephone terminal associated with a selected receiving terminal to the media server for controlling the reception of data streams at said selected terminal.

A method according to claim 2, wherein a subscribers authentication and authorisation communication is carried out between said telephone terminal and said media server (MS) and that further control information of said telephone terminal is only accepted, if a corresponding authentication and authorisation check is passed.

A method according to claim 2, wherein a mapping of download terminal addresses and subscriber identities is stored in the multimedia network and that the selected terminal is determined by identifying the subscriber and retrieving the corresponding download terminal address by looking up said mapping.

5. A method according to claim 2, wherein the address of said selected terminal is determined by carrying out the following steps:

said telephone terminal receiving the address of the selected terminal by means of a short range communication between said selected terminal and the telephone terminal and

said telephone terminal passing said address to the multimedia network.

A method according to claim 3, wherein the real time data stream to be transmitted to the selected download terminal is encrypted within the network and that after authentication and authorisation of the subscriber, the selected terminal receives an electronic key for a decryption of said real time data stream.

7. A method according to claim 3, wherein a billing of said subscriber is performed after the identification of said subscriber and according to a selected service.

8. A mediation device for mediating a real time data streams between a media server and a selected download terminal, wherein said mediation device comprises means, that are adapted

for terminating a bi-directional communication with said media server for receiving a data stream destined for said selected download terminal and

for further transmitting said data stream by means of a uni-directional protocol to said selected download terminal.

9. A multimedia network comprising a media server for downloading a selected real time data stream to a selected download terminal, wherein a mediation device according to claim 8 is comprised for relaying said data streams between a media server and said selected download terminal.
