Abstract

A locator system is disclosed. The system includes a GPS-enabled mobile station including a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card in communication with a E911-enabled wireless network. A switching center in the network is configured to receive a location request from a subscriber mobile station for the location of a remote mobile station, determined determine the position of the remote mobile station and generate a multi-media message including a graphical representation of the location of the mobile station for the subscriber mobile station.

Claims

1. A locator system comprising:

a GPS-enabled remote mobile station in communication with a E911-enabled wireless network;

the E911-enabled wireless network including a switching center for managing communications between said remote mobile station and wireless network;

the switching center being configured to;

receive a location request from a subscriber mobile station for the location of said remote mobile station;

determine the position of said remote mobile station;

generate a multi-media message including a graphical representation of the location of said remote mobile station; and

send said multi-media message to said subscriber mobile station.

2. The locator system of claim 1, wherein said multi-media message comprises MultiMedia Message Protocol (MMS) message.

3. The locator system of claim 1, wherein said message comprises a map having the location of said mobile station indicated thereon.

4. The locator system of claim 3, wherein said switching center is configured to determine the location of said mobile station utilizing E911 location information regarding said mobile station.

5. A locator system comprising:

switching center means for managing communications between a remote mobile station and E911-enabled wireless network; and

the switching center further comprising;

means for receiving a location request from a subscriber mobile station for the location of said remote mobile station;

means for determining the position of said remote mobile station;

means for generating a multi-media message including a graphical representation of the location of said remote mobile station; and

means for sending said multi-media message to said subscriber mobile station.

6. The locator system of claim 5, wherein said multi-media message comprises MultiMedia Message Protocol (MMS) message.

7. The locator system of claim 6, wherein said message comprises a map having the location of said mobile station indicated thereon.

8. The locator system of claim 7, wherein said switching center is configured to determine the location of said mobile station utilizing E911 location information regarding said mobile station.
