Abstract

Descriptions of audio-visual material.

Claims

1. A segmentation description scheme for video comprising:

(a) a segment description scheme where said segment description scheme identifies one and only one segment of said video; and

(b) a segment group description scheme where a segment group contains either but not both of;

(i) at least one segment of said video;

or

(ii) at least one other segment group.

2. The segmentation description scheme of claim 1 wherein said segment group contains a plurality of said segments of said video.

3. The segmentation description scheme of claim 1 wherein said segment group contains a plurality of said other segment groups.

4. The segmentation description scheme of claim 1 wherein said segment description scheme describes the content of said video.

5. A description scheme for video comprising:

(a) a segment description scheme where said segment description scheme identifies one and only one segment of said video; and

(b) a segment group description scheme where a segment group contains at least two other subgroups of segments, wherein each of said other subgroups provides an alternative view having at least one of different durations and levels of detail, wherein said segment group does not include a segment.

6. The description scheme of claim 5 wherein said other subgroups provide alternative views with the same functionality.

7. The description scheme of claim 5 wherein said other subgroups include said different durations.

8. The description scheme of claim 5 wherein said other subgroups include said levels of detail.

9. A description scheme for a plurality of videos comprising:

(a) a segment description scheme where said segment description scheme identifies one and only one segment of said videos, where said segment description scheme includes an attribute identifier to identify one of said videos and a location identifier to identify the location of said segment in said one of said videos; and

(b) a segment group description scheme where said segment group description scheme identifies a plurality of said segments, wherein at least two of said segments includes said attribute identifiers identifying different ones of said videos.
