Abstract

Light emitting assemblies include a multilayer light emitting panel member that receives light from at least one light source. The panel member may have at least one solid light conducting or transmitting layer and at least one hollow light conducting or transmitting layer.

Claims

1. A light emitting assembly comprising at least one light source, and a multilayer light emitting panel member that receives light from the light source, the panel member having at least one solid light conducting or transmitting layer and at least one hollow light conducting or transmitting layer.

2. The assembly of claim 1 which includes multiple light sources, and the light from the multiple light sources is mixed in at least a portion of the panel member.

3. The assembly of claim 2 wherein two or more of the multiple light sources are different color light sources.

4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the light source is a single LED with multicolored chips.

5. The assembly of claim 1 wherein at least one layer or surface of the panel member has deformities for causing light to be emitted from the panel member.

6. The assembly of claim 1 further comprising a tray of substrate that holds or positions the panel member.

7. The assembly of claim 1 further comprising a sheet, film or substrate with deformities positioned in close proximity to the panel member to direct the light emitted from the panel member in different directions to produce a desired light output distribution or effect.

8. The assembly of claim 7 wherein the sheet, film or substrate has prismatic or lenticular surfaces.
