Abstract

A system and method for the creation and automatic deployment of personalized, dynamic and interactive voice services, including information derived from on-line analytical processing (OLAP) systems and other data repositories is disclosed. The system and method includes the ability to deploy personalized voice services through a live or recorded personalized broadcast. In particular, the system and method access personalized information and generate personalized markup documents from the personalized information. The personalized markup document is converted to a form that is suitable for over-air transmission and transmitted to a subscriber of the voice service.

Claims

1. A method for providing one or more individuals with personalized information through a personalized broadcast, the method comprising:

accessing personalized information for the one or more individuals;

generating personalized markup documents for the one or more individuals from the personalized information;

converting the personalized markup documents into a format suitable for transmission; and

,

transmitting the converted personalized markup documents to the one or more individuals.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of accessing personalized information comprises accessing a database.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of accessing personalized information comprises accessing an on-line analytical processing system.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of generating personalized markup documents comprises generating XML-based documents from the personalized information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting the personalized markup documents comprises converting the markup documents into a signal in a digital audio format.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting the personalized markup documents comprises converting the markup documents into a signal in an analog audio format.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting comprises converting the personalized markup documents to a frequency modulated broadcast format.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting comprises converting the personalized markup documents to an amplitude modulated broadcast format.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting comprises converting the personalized markup documents to a short-wave radio broadcast format.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting comprises converting the personalized markup documents to a microwave broadcast format.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of converting comprises converting the personalized markup documents to a digital audio broadcast format.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of transmitting further comprises transmitting the converted personalized markup document by over-air transmission.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the over-air transmission is a real-time transmission.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein the over-air transmission is a recorded transmission.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the over-air transmission is a digital audio broadcast transmission.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of transmitting comprises:

compiling a composite broadcast signal comprising the converted personalized markup documents for the one or more individuals; and

,

transmitting the composite broadcast signal to the one or more individuals.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the step of compiling further comprises:

encoding the converted personalized markup documents to enable only one individual to receive the transmission.

18. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:

customizing the converted personalized markup documents.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the step of customizing the converted personalized markup documents comprises:

presenting the one or more individuals with a plurality of style properties to be used in generating the converted personalized markup documents;

registering style property selections from the one or more individuals; and

generating the converted personalized markup documents in accordance with the registered style property selections.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the plurality of style properties comprise options pertaining to format of the converted markup documents.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein the plurality of style properties comprise options pertaining to delivery of the converted markup documents.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein the plurality of style properties comprise options pertaining to content of the converted markup documents.

23. The method of claim 19, wherein the plurality of style properties comprise options pertaining to size of the converted markup documents.

24. The method of claim 19, wherein the plurality of style properties comprise options pertaining to enhancements to converted markup documents.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the enhancements comprise sound effects to be added to the converted markup documents.

26. The method of claim 24, wherein the enhancements comprise music to be added to converted markup documents.

27. The method of claim 24, wherein the enhancements comprise sound files to be added to converted markup documents.

28. The method of claim 24, wherein the enhancements comprise visual enhancements.

29. A system for providing one or more individuals with personalized information through a personalized broadcast, the system comprising:

a first system for accessing personalized information for the one or more individuals;

a second system for generating personalized markup documents for the one or more individuals from the personalized information;

a converter for converting the personalized markup documents into a format suitable for transmission; and

,

a transmitter for transmitting the converted personalized markup documents to the one or more individuals.

30. The system of claim 29 wherein the first system comprises an OLAP system.

31. The system of claim 29 wherein the second system comprises a server for generating the personalized markup documents from the personalized information.

32. The system of claim 29 wherein the second system generates XMIL-based documents from the personalized information.

33. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the markup documents into a signal in a digital audio format.

34. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the markup documents into a signal in an analog audio format.

35. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the personalized markup documents to a frequency modulated broadcast format.

36. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the personalized. markup documents to an amplitude modulated broadcast format.

37. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the personalized markup documents to a short-wave radio broadcast format.

38. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the personalized markup documents to a microwave broadcast format.

39. The system of claim 29, wherein the converter converts the personalized markup documents to a digital audio broadcast format.

40. The system of claim 29, wherein the transmitter transmits the converted personalized markup document by over-air transmission.

41. The system of claim 40, wherein the over-air transmission comprises a real-time transmission.

42. The system of claim 40, wherein the over-air transmission comprises a recorded transmission.

43. The system of claim 40, wherein the over-air transmission comprises a digital audio broadcast transmission.

44. The system of claim 29, wherein the transmitter compiles a composite broadcast signal comprising the converted personalized markup documents for the one or more individuals and transmits the composite broadcast signal to the one or more individuals.

45. The system of claim 44, wherein the transmitter further comprises an encoder that encodes the converted personalized markup documents to enable only one individual to receive the transmission.

46. The system of claim 29 further comprising a personalization module for accessing a set of style properties associated with the one or more individuals;

the converter generating the converted personalized markup documents using the style properties.
