Abstract

A method and system for generating electronic advertisement, such as banner ads, based on user profile information and other information are disclosed. An online promotion service may receive profile information, location information and other information from a user. The user may also define a proximity preference which may include a range of distance the user is willing to travel to redeem one or more promotions. A service or product provider or other authorized entity may define a proximity preference which may include a target range of advertisement exposure. The online promotion service may present advertisements for incentives and other promotions based on user profile information as well as proximity preference information where the proximity preference is defined by the user, the provider, or both. The user may activate a user identifier displayed on the advertisement which provides a direct link to user profile information to enable the user to easily and quickly modify and update user profile information.

Claims

1. A system for generating advertisements based on user profile information, the system comprising:

a server system for storing promotion information;

means for receiving profile information from a user;

means for storing in a database the user profile information;

means for generating an advertisement and transmitting the advertisement to the user based on the profile information entered by the user; and

means for providing a link to user profile information from the advertisement.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the promotion is a coupon.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the link to the user profile information comprises a user identifier.

4. The system of claim 3 wherein the user identifier is the name of the user.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the profile information comprises location information and wherein location information comprises an address associated with the user.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the profile information comprises proximity preference information and wherein the proximity preference information comprises a range the user is willing to travel to redeem the promotion.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the profile information comprises proximity preference information and wherein the proximity preference information comprises a range a provider is targeting as a range of advertisement exposure.

8. The system of claim 6 wherein the range comprises a user-defined mile radius from an identified address associated with the user.

9. The system of claim 7 wherein the range comprises a provider-defined mile radius from an identified redemption facility associated with the provider.

10. A method for generating advertisements based on user profile information, the method comprising:

storing promotion information;

receiving profile information from a user;

storing in a database the user profile information;

generating an advertisement and transmitting the advertisement to the user based on the profile information entered by the user; and

providing a link to user profile information from the advertisement.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the promotion is a coupon.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the link to the user profile information comprises a user identifier.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the user identifier is the name of the user.

14. The method of claim 10 wherein the profile information comprises location information and wherein location information comprises an address associated with the user.

15. The method of claim 10 wherein the profile information comprises proximity preference information and wherein the proximity preference information comprises a range the user is willing to travel to redeem the promotion.

16. The method of claim 10 wherein the profile information comprises proximity preference information and wherein the proximity preference information comprises a range a provider is targeting as a range of advertisement exposure.

17. The method of claim 15 wherein the range comprises a user-defined mile radius from an identified address associated with the user.

18. The system of claim 16 wherein the range comprises a provider-defined mile radius from an identified redemption facility associated with the provider.
