1. A total perimeter view auto security monitoring system comprising, in combination:
-
(a) a vehicle body having front and rear corners;
(b) four sets of digital camera apparatus, each being fixedly mounted with respect to a corresponding corner of the vehicle body;
(c) each set of camera apparatus being capable of viewing objects that are visible from the corresponding vehicle corner within at least about a quarter of a circle in a horizontal plane, such that the collective viewing areas of all of the sets of camera apparatus cover the entire perimeter of the vehicle;
(d) a central digital recording medium supported from the vehicle body and adapted to continuously receive data from all four of the sets of digital camera apparatus concurrently; and
(e) a source of electrical energy supported from the vehicle body for continuously energizing not only the digital recording medium but also all four sets of camera apparatus whether or not the vehicle engine is running. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5)

6. In an auto security monitoring system, apparatus comprising a mounting frame adapted to be mounted at a corner of a vehicle, a pair of viewing lenses fixed within the mounting frame in generally perpendicular relation to each other, the major viewing axes of the viewing lenses diverging at somewhat more than ninety degrees to capture optical data from at least about a quarter circle of the vehicle perimeter, and means for transmitting the optical data to a central recording medium.
-
7. The method of providing reliable real-time information about an auto accident or crime after the accident or crime has occurred, comprising the steps of:
-
placing a central digital recording medium in a secure location within an automotive vehicle and in removable relation thereto;
placing a plurality of optical viewing lenses in fixedly mounted positions around the entire periphery of the vehicle;
continuously energizing both the digital recording medium and all of the viewing lenses by energizing means that can be interrupted only under control of the vehicle operator;
transmitting real-time optical data from all of the viewing lenses on a continuous and concurrent basis to the central digital recording medium; and
after an accident or crime has occurred, stopping operation of the vehicle, interrupting the operation of the energizing means, removing the central digital recording medium from the vehicle, and retrieving the recorded real-time optical information from the recording medium.
