Abstract
The present invention pertains to novel microorganisms of the genus Bifidobacterium, that are useful in preventing diarrhea brought about by pathogenic bacteria. In particular, the present invention relates to the use of said microorganisms for the preparation of an ingestable support and to a composition containing the same.

A method of preventing infection in a mammal at risk of infection comprising administering to the mammal a composition including an amount of Bifidobacterium effective to prevent colonization of bacteria in an intestine of the mammal wherein the Bifidobacterium is selected from the group consisting of Bifidobacterium longum CNCM I-2169 and Bifidobacterium longum CNCM I-2170.

22. A method of preparing a composition containing a Bifidobacterium capable of preventing colonization of bacteria causing diarrhea in a mammal comprising:

providing an ingestible material;
growing a culture of the Bifidobacterium selected from the group consisting of Bifidobacterium longum CNCM I-2169 and Bifidobacterium longum CNCM I-2170;
forming a supernatant of the culture; and
