Abstract

A mounting system for an interface such as a flat panel display such as a computer monitor or television allows the display to be pivoted about a virtual pivot axis which passes through a center of gravity of the display. The system includes a support which is connected directly or indirectly to a support surface and a mount which is connected to a back side of the display. The support and the mount are slidable with respect to one another through an arc which has the virtual pivot axis as its center.

Claims

1. A mounting system for an interface, the mounting system comprising:

a mount having a mounting surface for attaching the interface to the mount;

a support having a base and a support bracket, wherein the base includes an upper edge having a top rail for carrying the support bracket; and

an arcuate sliding connection comprising;

an arcuate guide carried by either the mount or the support; and

a moveable traveler carried by the other of either the mount or the support, wherein the arcuate sliding connection permits sliding movement of the mount with respect to the support about an arc which defines a pivot axis, wherein the pivot axis has a center which is substantially coincident with a center of gravity of the interface and about which the interface is tilted as the mount moves with respect to the support.

2. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the support bracket includes a hook and the hook attaches to the top rail.

3. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the base further includes a lower edge having a bottom rail and the support bracket includes a set screw for engaging the bottom rail and securing the interface with respect to the base.

4. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the base further comprises a plurality of mounting apertures.

5. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the base further comprises an access aperture for cabling.

6. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the mounting surface has at least one elongated slot for attaching the interface.

7. The mounting system of claim 6, further comprising a series of apertures linearly aligned with the at least one elongated slot.

8. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the arcuate guide comprises a yoke and the moveable traveler comprises three parallel rollers carried by the yoke and which are arranged to define an arc so that as the mount is moved through the arc the interface is tilted about the pivot axis.

9. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the arcuate guide comprises an arcuate slot and the moveable traveler comprises a pin, such that the pin travels in the arcuate slot.

10. The mounting system of claim 1 further comprising a locking mechanism for securing a tilt angle of the mount with respect to the support.

23. The mounting system of claim 1 further comprising a locking mechanism for securing a tilt angle of the mount with respect to the support.

11. A mounting system for an interface, the mounting system comprising:

a mount having a mounting surface for attaching the interface to the mount;

a support having a base and a support bracket, wherein the mount is carried by a hook and the hook attaches to the base; and

an arcuate sliding connection comprising;

an arcuate guide carried by either the mount or the support; and

a moveable traveler carried by the other of either the mount or the support, wherein the arcuate sliding connection permits sliding movement of the mount with respect to the support about an arc which defines a pivot axis, wherein the pivot axis has a center which is substantially coincident with a center of gravity of the interface and about which the interface is tilted as the mount moves with respect to the support.

12. The mounting system of claim 11, wherein the base further comprises an access aperture for cabling.

13. The mounting system of claim 11, wherein the mounting surface has at least one elongated slot for attaching the interface.

14. The mounting system of claim 11, wherein the arcuate guide comprises a yoke and the moveable traveler comprises three parallel rollers carried by the yoke and which are arranged to define an arc so that as the mount is moved through the arc the interface is tilted about the pivot axis.

15. The mounting system of claim 11, wherein the arcuate guide comprises an arcuate slot and the moveable traveler comprises a pin, such that the pin travels in the arcuate slot.

16. The mounting system of claim 11 further comprising a locking mechanism for securing a tilt angle of the mount with respect to the support.

17. A mounting system for an interface, the mounting system comprising:

a mount having a mounting surface for attaching the interface to the mount;

a support having a base and a support bracket, wherein the support allows for lateral slideable adjustment of the mount; and

an arcuate sliding connection comprising;

an arcuate guide carried by either the mount or the support; and

a moveable traveler carried by the other of either the mount or the support, wherein the arcuate sliding connection permits sliding movement of the mount with respect to the support about an arc which defines a pivot axis, wherein the pivot axis has a center which is substantially coincident with a center of gravity of the interface and about which the interface is tilted as the mount moves with respect to the support.

18. The mounting system of claim 17, wherein the base further includes a lower edge having a bottom rail and the support bracket includes a set screw for engaging the bottom rail and securing the interface with respect to the base.

19. The mounting system of claim 17, wherein the base further comprises an access aperture for cabling.

20. The mounting system of claim 17, wherein the mounting surface has at least one elongated slot for attaching the interface.

21. The mounting system of claim 17, wherein the arcuate guide comprises a yoke and the moveable traveler comprises three parallel rollers carried by the yoke and which are arranged to define an arc so that as the mount is moved through the arc the interface is tilted about the pivot axis.

22. The mounting system of claim 17, wherein the arcuate guide comprises an arcuate slot and the moveable traveler comprises a pin, such that the pin travels in the arcuate slot.

24. A mounting system for an interface, the mounting system comprising:

a mount having a mounting surface for attaching the interface to the mount;

a support having a base and a support bracket, wherein the base includes a first and second side and an upper edge and the support bracket is secured on the upper edge, and at least one of the first or second sides includes a lateral end stop for preventing lateral movement of the support bracket beyond the lateral end stop; and

an arcuate sliding connection comprising;

an arcuate guide carried by either the mount or the support; and

a moveable traveler carried by the other of either the mount or the support, wherein the arcuate sliding connection permits sliding movement of the mount with respect to the support about an arc which defines a pivot axis, wherein the pivot axis has a center which is substantially coincident with a center of gravity of the interface and about which the interface is tilted as the mount moves with respect to the support.

25. The mounting system of claim 24, wherein the base further comprises an access aperture for cabling.

26. The mounting system of claim 24, wherein the mounting surface has at least one elongated slot for attaching the interface.

27. The mounting system of claim 24, wherein the arcuate guide comprises a yoke and the moveable traveler comprises three parallel rollers carried by the yoke and which are arranged to define an arc so that as the mount is moved through the arc the interface is tilted about the pivot axis.

28. The mounting system of claim 24, wherein the arcuate guide comprises an arcuate slot and the moveable traveler comprises a pin, such that the pin travels in the arcuate slot.

29. The mounting system of claim 24 further comprising a locking mechanism for securing a tilt angle of the mount with respect to the support.
