Abstract

A computer implemented method is provided for directing region-specific information. The method receives information relating to location of users, and provides location-specific information to the users.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method for providing content to mobile devices, comprising:

receiving information related to physical location of a mobile device; and

selectively providing content to the mobile device as a function of the physical location of the device.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising using a global positioning system (GPS) system to identify the physical location of the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting the content to be provided to the mobile device as a function of physical location of a provider of the content.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising associating physical location of content providers with physical location of the mobile device.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising selecting the content to be provided to the mobile device as a function of user preference.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing a targeted advertisement to be rendered by the mobile device.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the targeted advertisement is rendered by the mobile device as an audio clip.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein the targeted advertisement is rendered by the mobile device as video.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising user demographic information in connection with selecting the content to be provided to the mobile device.

10. A computer implemented method to facilitate mobile device communications, comprising:

using global position system technology to receive information related to movement of a user; and

dynamically displaying information to the user as a function of the user movement.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising filtering information available to be displayed to the user as a function of proximity of the user to source of the information.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising filtering the information based on user demographics.

13. The method of claim 10 further comprising displaying the information to the user on a cellular telephone.

14. The method of claim 10 further comprising displaying the information to the user on a personal data assistant (PDA).

15. The method of claim 10 further comprising displaying the information to the user on a portable computing device.

16. The method of claim 10 further comprising restricting the amount of information made available to the user based at least in part upon user preference as to geographic origin of the information.

17. The method of claim 16 further comprising receiving an input from the user as to size of a geographic area that the information can originate from.

18. The method of claim 17 further comprising receiving a zip code input from the user that defines the size of the geographic area.

19. The method of claim 17 further comprising receiving square mileage information relating to size of the geographic area.

20. A computer readable medium having stored thereon computer executable instructions for carrying out the acts of claim 10.
