Abstract

The invention is a system for detecting, monitoring, and reporting an individual'"'"'s physiological or contextual status. The system works deriving a physiological or contextual status parameter of an individual using the system. The derivation utilizes two sensed parameters of the individual. The system is able to present the derived parameter in relation to any other sensed parameters, entered information, life activities data, or other derived data.

Claims

1. An system for detecting, monitoring, and reporting an individual'"'"'s physiological or contextual status, comprising:

a first sensor adapted to generate data indicative of a first parameter of said individual if said first sensor is in proximity to said individual;

a second sensor adapted to generate data indicative of a second parameter of said individual if said second sensor is in proximity to said individual;

a processing unit in electronic communication with said first sensor and said second sensor;

a central monitoring unit in electronic communication with at least one of said sensors and said processing unit; and

an output means in electronic communication with at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit,

wherein at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit is programmed (a) to use both of said data indicative of a first parameter and said data indicative of a second parameter to generate at least one of a derived physiological and a derived contextual status parameter of said individual, and (b) to cause said output means to present to a user indicators of said at least one of derived physiological status parameter of said individual and a derived contextual status parameter of said individual in relation to indicators of at least one of (i) said data indicative of a first parameter of said individual, and (ii) said data indicative of a second parameter of said individual.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein at least one of said first sensor, said second sensor, and said processor is in a unitary wearable device.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein said system further comprises an input means to enable a user to enter data into the system.

The system of claim 3 at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit is programmed (a) to use both of said data indicative of a first parameter and said data indicative of a second parameter to generate at least one of a derived physiological and a derived contextual status parameter of said individual, and (b) to cause said output means to present to a user indicators of said at least one of derived physiological status parameter of said individual and a derived contextual status parameter of said individual in relation to indicators of at least one of (i) said data indicative of a first parameter of said individual, (ii) said data indicative of a second parameter of said individual, (iii) another derived status parameter of said individual, said derived status parameter of said individual being at least one of a physiological status parameter and a contextual status parameter, and (iv) data entered by the user.

5. The system of claim 1 further comprising a means for providing life activities data of said individual to said system.

The system of claim 5 wherein at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit is programmed (a) to use both of said data indicative of a first parameter and said data indicative of a second parameter to generate at least one of a derived physiological and a derived contextual status parameter of said individual, and (b) to cause said output means to present to a user indicators of said at least one of derived physiological status parameter of said individual and a derived contextual status parameter of said individual in relation to indicators of at least one of (i) said data indicative of a first parameter of said individual, (ii) said data indicative of a second parameter of said individual, (iii) another derived status parameter of said individual, said derived status parameter of said individual being at least one of a physiological status parameter and a contextual status parameter, and (iv) life activities data of said individual.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein said at least one derived physiological or contextual status parameter of said individual is said individual'"'"'s energy expenditure.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein said data generated by said system is aggregated into a database accessible to a user.

9. The system of claim 3 wherein said data generated by the system and data entered by the user is aggregated into a database accessible to a user.

10. The system of claim 5 wherein said data generated by the system and said life activities data is aggregated into a database accessible to a user.

11. The system of any one of claims 1, 8, 9, or 10 wherein said user is at least one of an authorized user and said individual.

12. The system of any one of claims 8-10 wherein said database is stored on a network storage device.

13. The system of any one of claim 8-10 wherein at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit is programmed receive a query from a user, to access said database, to cause said output means to generate a report based on said query with data from said database.

The system of any of claim 1 wherein at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit is programmed to generate feedback data relating to the degree to which said individual has achieved one or more preset goals, said feedback data being generated from at least a portion of at least one of said data indicative of a first parameter of said individual, said data indicative of a second parameter of said individual and said derived data, at least one of said processing unit and said central monitoring unit being programmed to cause said output means to provide said feedback information to a user.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein said one or more preset goals comprise a target caloric burn for said individual or a target caloric intake of said individual.

16. The system of claim 1 wherein said output means is at least one of a personal computer, a personal digital assistant, a pager, and a mobile phone.

17. The system of claim 1 wherein said indicators are visual.

18. The system of claim 1 wherein said indicators are in audio form.

19. The system of claim 1 wherein said indicators are tactile.

20. The system of claim 1 wherein said central monitoring unit is adapted to generate one or more web pages comprising data generated by the system, and wherein said output means makes said web pages accessible to a user over the Internet.

21. The system of claim 1 wherein said system is fee based.

22. The system of claim 1 wherein said indicators represent at least one of life activities, activities of daily living, data entered by user, said individual'"'"'s activity level, stress of individual, mind centering of individual, sleep of individual, energy expenditure of individual, or how the individual feels.

23. The system of claim 1 wherein at least one of said indicators are compared to a baseline parameter or indicator of the individual.

24. The system claim 1 wherein at least one of said central monitoring unit and said processing unit is programmed to provide suggestions, said suggestions being based on said relationship of said indicators to one another.
