Abstract

A system for providing content to a mobile terminal includes a source and a messaging gateway. The source is capable of reformatting content intended for receipt by a terminal, and transferring the reformatted content and an address of the terminal to the messaging gateway. The content can be reformatted in any of a number of different manners, including for example, a vectorized format such as the scalable vector graphics (SVG) format. In response to receiving the reformatted content and address of the terminal, the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the terminal, the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content. As such, the terminal can thereafter send a request to the messaging gateway in response to the messaging gateway signaling the destination client, and thereafter download the reformatted content from the messaging gateway, such as at least partially across a cellular network.

Claims

1. A system for providing content to a mobile terminal capable of operating in a cellular network environment, the system comprising:

a source capable of operating in a fixed network environment, wherein the source is capable of reformatting content intended for receipt by the mobile terminal, the content being reformatted into a vectorized format, and wherein the source is also capable of transferring the reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal; and

a messaging gateway capable of interfacing between the fixed network environment and the cellular network environment, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of receiving and storing the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal, and wherein the messaging gateway is also capable of signaling the mobile terminal based upon the mobile terminal address the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content, and wherein the messaging gateway is further capable of facilitating downloading of the reformatted content in response to receiving a request from the mobile terminal, the request being in response to the messaging gateway signaling the mobile terminal.

A system according to claim 1, wherein the source is capable of operating a source client application, the source client being capable of receiving the content by interfacing with at least one of a print functionality of another application capable of operating on the source, and a Graphics Device Interface (GDI) of an operating system capable of operating on the source.

3. A system according to claim 1, wherein the source is capable of reformatting the content into a scalable vector graphics (SVG) format.

4. A system according to claim 1, wherein the source is capable receiving the mobile terminal address from a source user.

5. A system according to claim 4, wherein the source is capable of receiving the mobile terminal address comprising one of a mobile telephone number and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address.

6. A system according to claim 4, wherein the source is capable of receiving a name of a mobile terminal user, and thereafter selecting the mobile terminal address based upon the name.

7. A system according to claim 1, wherein the source is capable of reformatting the content into an intermediate format, and wherein the messaging gateway is capable of reformatting the content from the intermediate format into a vectorized format supported by the mobile terminal.

8. A system according to claim 1, wherein the source is capable of transferring the reformatted content, the address of the mobile terminal and a text message to the messaging gateway.

9. A system according to claim 1, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal at least partially across a cellular network.

10. A system according to claim 9, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Short Messaging Service (SMS).

11. A system according to claim 9, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

12. A system according to claim 1, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of authenticating the mobile terminal based upon an identity of the mobile terminal, the messaging gateway authenticating the mobile terminal before the mobile terminal downloads the reformatted content.

A system according to claim 12, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of authenticating the mobile terminal based upon at least one of an international mobile equipment identification (IMEI) code associated with the mobile terminal, and a session authentication key transferred to the mobile terminal during the signaling of the mobile terminal.

14. A system according to claim 1, wherein the source is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal at least partially across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

15. A system according to claim 1, wherein a single entity supports the source and the messaging gateway.

16. A system according to claim 1, wherein the messaging gateway is capable of storing the reformatted content in memory of the messaging gateway and, upon downloading of the reformatted content by the mobile terminal, removing the reformatted content from the memory.

17. A source for providing content to a mobile terminal capable of operating in a cellular network environment, wherein the source is capable of operating in a fixed network environment, and wherein the source comprises:

a processor capable of operating a source client, the source client being capable of reformatting content intended for receipt by the mobile terminal, the content being reformatted into a vectorized format, wherein the source client is also capable of transferring the reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal to a messaging gateway capable of interfacing between the fixed network environment and the cellular network environment, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal such that the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal based upon the mobile terminal address, the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content, and wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal such that the messaging gateway is further capable of facilitating downloading of the reformatted content to the mobile terminal in response to receiving a request from the mobile terminal, the request being in response to the messaging gateway signaling the mobile terminal.

A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of receiving the content by interfacing with at least one of a print functionality of another application capable of operating on the source, and a Graphics Device Interface (GDI) of an operating system capable of operating on the source.

19. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client comprises a printer driver, and is also capable of receiving the mobile terminal address from a source user.

20. A source according to claim 19, wherein the source client is capable of receiving the mobile terminal address comprising one of a mobile telephone number and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address.

21. A source according to claim 19, wherein the source is capable of receiving a name of a mobile terminal user, and thereafter selecting the mobile terminal address based upon the name.

22. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of reformatting the content into a scalable vector graphics (SVG) format.

23. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of reformatting the content into an intermediate format such that the messaging gateway is capable of reformatting the reformatted content from the intermediate format into a vectorized format supported by the mobile terminal.

24. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content, the address of the mobile terminal and a text message to the messaging gateway.

25. A source according to claim 17 further comprising:

a display capable of being driven by the source client to present a user interface, the user interface being capable of receiving the mobile terminal address.

26. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal such that the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal at least partially across a cellular network.

27. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway such that the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal at least partially across a cellular network.

28. A source according to claim 27, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway such that the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Short Messaging Service (SMS).

29. A source according to claim 27, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway such that the messaging gateway is capable of signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

30. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway such that the messaging gateway is further capable of authenticating the mobile terminal based upon an identity of the mobile terminal, and if the mobile terminal is successfully authenticated, such that the mobile terminal is capable of downloading the reformatted content.

31. A source according to claim 30, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway such that the messaging gateway is further capable of authenticating the mobile terminal based upon at least one of an international mobile equipment identification (IMEI) code associated with the mobile terminal, and a session authentication key transferred to the mobile terminal during the signaling of the mobile terminal.

32. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway at least partially across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

33. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source further comprises the messaging gateway.

34. A source according to claim 17, wherein the source client is capable of transferring the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway such that the messaging gateway is capable of storing the reformatted content in memory of the messaging gateway and, upon downloading of the reformatted content by the mobile terminal, removing the reformatted content from the memory.

35. A messaging gateway capable of facilitating downloading of to a mobile terminal capable of operating in a cellular network environment, the messaging gateway comprising:

a processor capable of receiving and storing reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal from a source capable of operating in a fixed network environment, the content having been reformatted into a vectorized format, wherein the reformatted content is intended for receipt by the mobile terminal, and wherein the processor is capable of signaling to the mobile terminal based upon the address of the mobile terminal, the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content, and wherein the processor is capable of facilitating downloading of the reformatted content to the mobile terminal in response to receiving a request from the mobile terminal, the request being in response to the processor signaling the mobile terminal.

36. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor is capable of receiving reformatted content in a scalable vector graphics (SVG) format.

37. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor is capable of receiving reformatted content in an intermediate format, and wherein the processor is also capable of reformatting the content from the intermediate format into a vectorized format supported by the mobile terminal.

38. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor is capable of receiving the reformatted content, the address of the mobile terminal and a text message from the source.

39. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor capable of receiving and storing an address of the mobile terminal comprising one of a mobile telephone number and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address.

40. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor is capable of signaling the terminal at least partially across a cellular network.

41. A messaging gateway according to claim 40, wherein the processor is capable of signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Short Messaging Service (SMS).

42. A messaging gateway according to claim 40, wherein the processor is capable of signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

43. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor is capable of authenticating the mobile terminal based upon an identity of the mobile terminal such that, if the mobile terminal is successfully authenticated, the mobile terminal is capable of downloading the reformatted content.

44. A messaging gateway according to claim 43, wherein the processor is capable of authenticating the mobile terminal based upon at least one of an international mobile equipment identification (IMEI) code associated with the mobile terminal, and a session authentication key transferred to the mobile terminal during the signaling of the mobile terminal.

45. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the processor is capable of receiving the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal at least partially across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

46. A messaging gateway according to claim 35, wherein the messaging gateway further comprises the source.

47. A messaging gateway according to claim 35 further comprising:

a memory,

wherein the processor is capable of storing the reformatted content in the memory gateway and, upon downloading of the reformatted content by the mobile terminal, removing the reformatted content from the memory.

48. A mobile terminal capable of operating in a cellular network environment, the mobile terminal comprising:

a processor capable of operating a destination client, the destination client being capable of being signaled by a messaging gateway based upon an address of the mobile terminal, the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal from a source capable of operating in a fixed network environment, the content having been reformatted into a vectorized format, and wherein the destination client is capable of sending a request to the messaging gateway in response to the messaging gateway signaling the destination client, and thereafter downloading the reformatted content from the messaging gateway.

49. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the reformatted content in a scalable vector graphics (SVG) format.

50. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the reformatted content, the address of the mobile terminal and a text message from the source.

51. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the an address of the mobile terminal comprising one of a mobile telephone number and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address.

52. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the reformatted content in an intermediate format and thereafter reformatting the content from the intermediate format into a vectorized format supported by the terminal.

53. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled at least partially across a cellular network.

54. A mobile terminal according to claim 53, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in accordance with the Short Messaging Service (SMS) .

55. A mobile terminal according to claim 53, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

56. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being authenticated to the messaging gateway based upon an identity of the mobile terminal, and if the mobile terminal is successfully authenticated, downloading the reformatted content.

57. A mobile terminal according to claim 56, wherein the destination client is capable of being authenticated to the messaging gateway based upon at least one of an international mobile equipment identification (IMEI) code associated with the mobile terminal, and a session authentication key received by the destination client during the signaling of the destination client.

58. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the reformatted content and the address of the mobile terminal at least partially across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

59. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein at least one of the destination client and another application operating on the mobile terminal is capable of rendering the reformatted content, and wherein the mobile terminal further comprises:

a display capable of presenting the rendered content.

60. A mobile terminal according to claim 48, wherein the destination client is capable of being signaled in response to the messaging gateway receiving the reformatted content and storing the reformatted content in memory of the messaging gateway, and wherein the destination client is capable of downloading the reformatted content such that the messaging gateway thereafter removes the reformatted content from the memory.

61. A method of providing content to a mobile terminal capable of operating in a cellular network environment, the method comprising:

receiving and storing reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal at a messaging gateway from a source capable of operating in a fixed network environment, the content having been reformatted into a vectorized format, wherein the reformatted content is intended for receipt by the mobile terminal;

signaling the mobile terminal from the messaging gateway, the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content; and

transferring the reformatted content from the messaging gateway to the mobile terminal, the reformatted content being transferred in response to the messaging gateway receiving a request from the mobile terminal, the request being in response to the messaging gateway signaling the mobile terminal.

62. A method according to claim 61, wherein receiving and storing reformatted content comprises receiving and storing content having been reformatted a scalable vector graphics (SVG) format.

63. A method according to claim 61, wherein receiving and storing reformatted content comprise receiving and storing content having been reformatted into an intermediate format, and wherein the method further comprises:

reformatting the content, at the messaging gateway, from the intermediate format into a vectorized format supported by the mobile terminal.

64. A method according to claim 61, wherein receiving and storing reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal comprises receiving and storing reformatted content, an address of the mobile terminal and a text message.

65. A method according to claim 61, wherein receiving and storing an address of the mobile terminal comprises receiving and storing an address of the mobile terminal comprising one of a mobile telephone number and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address.

66. A method according to claim 61, wherein signaling the mobile terminal comprises signaling the mobile terminal at least partially across a cellular network.

67. A method according to claim 66, wherein signaling the mobile terminal comprises signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Short Messaging Service (SMS).

68. A method according to claim 66, wherein signaling the mobile terminal comprises signaling the mobile terminal in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

69. A method according to claim 61, wherein transferring the reformatted content further comprises authenticating the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway based upon an identity of the mobile terminal, and if the mobile terminal is successfully authenticated, transferring the reformatted content.

70. A method according to claim 69, wherein authenticating the mobile terminal comprises authenticating the mobile terminal based upon at least one of an international mobile equipment identification (IMEI) code associated with the mobile terminal, and a session authentication key transferred to the mobile terminal during the signaling of the mobile terminal.

71. A method according to claim 61, wherein receiving the reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal comprises receiving the reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal at least partially across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

72. A method according to claim 61, wherein storing reformatted content comprises storing reformatted content in memory of the messaging gateway, and wherein the method further comprises:

removing the reformatted content from the memory upon transferring of the reformatted content to the mobile terminal.

73. A computer program product for providing content to a mobile terminal capable of operating in a cellular network environment, the computer program product comprising at least one computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code portions stored therein, the computer-readable program code portions comprising:

a first executable portion for receiving and storing reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal at a messaging gateway from a source capable of operating in a fixed network environment, the content having been reformatted into a vectorized format, wherein the reformatted content is intended for receipt by the mobile terminal;

a second executable portion for signaling the mobile terminal from the messaging gateway, the signaling including information required to access the reformatted content; and

a third executable portion for transferring the reformatted content from the messaging gateway to the mobile terminal, the reformatted content being transferred in response to the messaging gateway receiving a request from the mobile terminal, the request being in response to the messaging gateway signaling the mobile terminal.

74. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the first executable portion is adapted to receive and store content having been reformatted a scalable vector graphics (SVG) format.

75. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the first executable portion is adapted to receive and store content having been reformatted into an intermediate format, and wherein the computer program product further comprises:

a fourth executable portion for reformatting the content, at the messaging gateway, from the intermediate format into a vectorized format supported by the mobile terminal.

76. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the first executable portion is adapted to further receive and store a text message.

77. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the first executable portion is adapted to receive and store an address of the mobile terminal comprising one of a mobile telephone number and a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address.

78. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the second executable portion is adapted to signal the mobile terminal at least partially across a cellular network.

79. A computer program product according to claim 78, wherein the second executable portion is adapted to signal the mobile terminal in accordance with the Short Messaging Service (SMS).

80. A computer program product according to claim 78, wherein the second executable portion is adapted to signal the mobile terminal in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

81. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the third executable portion is adapted to further authenticate the mobile terminal to the messaging gateway based upon an identity of the mobile terminal, and if the mobile terminal is successfully authenticated, transfer the reformatted content.

82. A computer program product according to claim 81, wherein the third executable portion is adapted to authenticate the mobile terminal based upon at least one of an international mobile equipment identification (IMEI) code associated with the mobile terminal, and a session authentication key transferred to the mobile terminal during the signaling of the mobile terminal.

83. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the first executable portion is adapted to receive and store the reformatted content and an address of the mobile terminal at least partially across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

84. A computer program product according to claim 73, wherein the first executable portion is adapted to store the reformatted content in memory of the messaging gateway, and wherein the computer program product further comprises:

a fourth executable portion for removing the reformatted content from the memory upon transferring of the reformatted content to the mobile terminal.
