Abstract

A system and method of advanced identification information to be created and distributed to users of wireless communication devices, such as mobile phones. Subscribers can define their own personas as collections of information which define the users. Subscribers can then publish their persona(s) to their friends'"'"' and associates'"'"' mobile phones, and update the others'"'"' address books with the subscriber'"'"'s contact information. Users can specify different personas to be presented to different users.

Claims

1. As system for providing personification information to users of a wireless phone.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the personification information includes a picture associated with a user.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the personification information includes a ringtone associated with a user.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the personification information includes a location associated with a user.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the personification information is displayed on a user phone when the contact communicates with the user

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the personification information is user contact data.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the contact information includes at least one of a user name, user email addresses, user phone number, user physical addresses, user birthday, instant messenger user identifiers.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein the personification information includes a video clip with or without sound.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein the system includes a client application provided on the phone.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein the client application includes an entity manager.

11. The system of claim 9 wherein the client application stores personification information in a phone data store.

12. The system of claim 9 wherein the client application stores personification information in a client data store.

13. The system of claim 9 wherein the client application includes a synchronization client communicating with a synchronization server.

14. The system of claim 9 wherein the client application includes a user interface controller.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein the user interface includes a management interface.

16. The system of claim 14 wherein the user interface includes a phone display controller for the personification information.

17. The system of claim 1 wherein the system includes an advanced identification server capable of communicating with at least one client, including a data store having personification information and an ID management application.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein the management application includes a persona manager.

19. The system of claim 17 wherein the management application includes a digital media rights manager.

20. The system of claim 17 wherein the server includes a user management interface.

21. The system of claim 17 wherein the management application includes a user relationship manager.

22. The system of claim 17 wherein the server includes a communications protocol server.

23. The system of claim 1 wherein the system includes at least two subsets of personification information, a first subset is provided to a first user and a second subset is provided to a second user.

55. The server of claim 5 wherein the management application includes a user relationship manager.

24. A method of identifying a service subscriber on a wireless device, comprising:

establishing a subscriber persona comprising information identifying a user to other users; and

displaying at least a portion of the persona on a device when a call to the device is received from another subscriber.

25. The method of claim 24 wherein the establishing step includes:

providing persona information to a user interface.

26. The method of claim 24 wherein the step of displaying step includes:

identifying at least one user having a relationship with the subscriber.

27. The method of claim 26 wherein the step of identifying includes matching contact information between a subscriber contact list and a user contact list.

28. The method of claim 24 wherein the step of displaying includes downloading information to a user device and outputting the information on a user interface.

29. The method of claim 24 wherein the step of displaying includes downloading a first persona to a first user device and a second persona to a second user device.

30. The method of claim 24 further including controlling the device to prevent receipt of a call as defined in the persona.

31. The method of claim 24 further including controlling a device of said another subscriber to prevent initiation of a call based on the persona.

32. A method of providing an advanced caller identification service, comprising

maintaining store of subscriber persona information provided by users, the persona information identifying the user to other users;

and

distributing persona information to others based on an established relationship between subscribers.

33. The method of claim 32 wherein the method further includes the step of distributing client application to wireless devices to display persona information.

34. The method of claim 32 further including the step of charging a fee for said method.

35. The method of claim 32 further including the step of establishing subscriber accounts for subscribers and receiving at least one persona for a subscriber.

36. The method of claim 32 further including the step of establishing links between subscribers who have established personas and distributing based personas based on said link.

37. The method of claim 32 wherein the method further includes the step of providing at least one default persona.

38. The method of claim 32 wherein the method further includes receiving persona information including at least one of the following:

a user name, user email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, birthday, instant messenger user identifiers, a movie;

a ringtone;

an image.

39. The method of claim 32 wherein the persona information includes location information.

40. The method of claim 39 wherein the location information includes GPS information.

41. The method of claim 39 wherein the location information includes a user selectable granularity.

42. The method of claim 32 further including the step of distributing a client application interpreting persona information and controlling a first subscriber'"'"'s phone to control the first subscriber'"'"'s phone based on a second subscriber'"'"'s persona information.

43. An application on a subscriber phone, comprising:

A store of personification information for at least one other subscriber;

A display interface providing personification information to a phone interface

44. The system of claim 43 wherein the client application includes an entity manager.

45. The system of claim 43 wherein the client application stores personification information in a phone data store.

46. The system of claim 43 wherein the client application stores personification information in a client data store.

47. The system of claim 43 wherein the client application includes a synchronization client communicating with a synchronization server.

48. The system of claim 43 wherein the client application includes a user interface controller.

49. The system of claim 48 wherein the user interface includes a management interface.

50. The system of claim 48 wherein the user interface includes a phone display controller for the personification information.

51. An application server for a communication system, comprising:

a store of personification information for a plurality of subscribers;

a distribution system management application.

52. The server of claim 51 wherein the management application includes a persona manager.

53. The server of claim 51 wherein the management application includes a digital media rights manager.

54. The server of claim 51 wherein the server includes a user management interface.

56. The server of claim 51 wherein the server includes a SyncML server.

57. The server of claim 51 further including a user interface server.

58. The server of claim 51 wherein the server includes at least two subsets of personification information, a first subset is provided to a first user and a second subset is provided to a second user.

59. The server of claim 51 wherein the server includes a media transcoder.

60. The server of claim 59 wherein the media transcoder includes a format conversion application.

61. The server of claim 59 wherein the media transcoder includes a format selection engine selecting a media format based on a user device.
